Hi folks, head up North from sunny Melbourne in a few weeks the desert is not on this year they who shall be obeyed say its the beach with sea, not the beach with dust. Any good day trips in the Coffs Harbour area?? Any good fishing spots?? Last year it was Cullyamurra waterhole, great fishing and fair four wheel driving.

About 50k north of Coffs is at Pebbly Beach National park where you can camp on the beach. To get to one of the camps you need drive down the beach about 1km then ford a tidal stream.

Nice spot. although I am not real keen on the wagon swiming a salt creak. Well it was salt when we were there in the drought. If there has been rain the fresh water would flush it quite well. The water was about 1 1/2" deep.

You mean our 4by's don't like salt water?

What about all the ads showing them running through the surf? It must be OK, because I saw it on the TV......

So thats what I have been doing wrong.

Next thing you will say the holden ad where the sedan-like thing pulls that huge boat up that steep sandhill is false. And that ad where the Jeeps are leaping over the tracks in the forest - that must be OK to do.....

;-)

It is OK to take them swimming as long as they are Demo models or rentals.

We were waiting at that creek for the guys that were camping there to come out and this Thrifty rental Jackaroo hit the creek and had the water wash up and over the roof.....and no snorkel.

A mate that was with us who knew the rental guys was saying that they only got it back after a engine rebuild after someone did the same thing a month before.

Hi Red GQ,
I agree with the destination above but I think you'll find that the camping ground is called Pebbly Beach and it is located in the Sthn end of Yuraygir National Park. Access is from the 'Pathetic' Highway, not too many k's after the Corindi Beach/Red Rock turn-offs. There's also another camp ground there before you get to the beach called Station Creek. It is a few hundred metres to the beach from there but it is a much nicer spot right beside the creek with huge shady trees and bird-life, fire wood, toilets, bins and it's a nice walk to the beach. From there you can drive along the beach and not have to cross the salty creek to get to your camp-site.
Day trips are plentiful. Get the State Forestry map for the Coffs Harbour area. There's the Waterfall Way out through Bellingen and Dorrigo which is very scenic and all the waterfalls are worth the visit. You could spend an extra night out that way towards Armidale and back for more scenery. Spent part of our honeymoon at a spot called Hyatt's Flat beside a creek in the Styx River State Forest. First attempt at catching Rainbow Trout and was successful! And at that time of year the fire-flies came out at dusk- magical.
