I recently purchased a copy of OziExplorer Mapping Software and I am quite impressed with its (hidden) features apart from the more obvious ones.
I already have Discover Australia and Great Desert Tracks for use in my Magellan GPS and occasionally on a Laptop, which gives me a more readable view than the GPS screen.
I also own a copy of NATMAP Raster Premium maps on DVD and this is excellent for homing in on specific areas.
PROBLEM ¨C Ever tried to print a portion of map directly from NATMAP? The resulting printout you get is useless for viewing in detail, unless you happen to own a very serious Plotter. A large portion of the printout is either blank, or is used for a Legend making it impossible to cover the entire page size with your selected image.
SOLUTION ¨C OziExplorer. After loading a detailed raster map from NATMAP into OziExplorer and zooming in on the required area of map that I am currently interested in, The resultant hard copy print in either portrait or landscape on even A4 paper gives a surprisingly readable print. Even better on A3 paper.
You even get the option of including, or ignoring the map name so you get the best use of image versus paper size.
I recently used OziExplorer to record and map the
Bloomfield Track Trek which is now available on this site and the ability to print out the recorded trek for a hard copy reference really impressed me.
Even the ability to just print out a selected portion of the NATMAP Raster map via OziExplorer makes the product worthwhile in its own right.
So, good on you Des
Newman, a great Aussie product.
Now all I need is a decent 7"2 touch screen so SHMBO doesn"0t need to have the Laptop sitting on her lap and we will be re-mapping the whole Country.
(At least we could if petrol wasn"0t so expensive and we didn"0t have to work for a living)
Oh
Well!!!

Hi Mike,
Possibly not. My version is the latest (so I thought) 3.95.4 but I will check for and download any patches or versions that are available.
Thanks for the info.

I agree Ozi is a great product. Been using it for several years now. What I also like is the ability to use the API to build extra customisation.

I plot my route and then print out the Hema GDT maps in landscape orientation to cover the route. If I get to a dodgy area, especially when offroad, I would cross reference with my Natmap Raster Mosaic maps on the laptop in Oziexplorer as
well.
It works
well for me.

Yeah. The printing features in Ozi are excellent.
I often print the map out with the waypoints and route on the layout, the Route list and the waypoint list, so I can hand them to someone else to navigate for me. They then have a very comprehensive trip plan that they can use to easily orient themselves with the GPS.
