Afternoon all....

I lost my Swiss Army Knife about 9 months ago. I went to use it the other day, and it just wasn't there!! I've been searching everywhere for it, and the only place it could have fallen out would have been during a recovery along the powerlines to the north of Lithgow.

Has anyone picked it up in their travels??? It was one of those really wide ones, with all the bells and whistles on it.

I know this is a long shot, but definitely worth a try!

Cheers,

Chump

Naw Gramps,

It would have been out in the open, so nowhere to hide to make little ones....

Not like those bloody barbie dolls. I've got 2 little girls, and I swear those dolls are multiplying in the cupbord somehow......

chump_boy you should meet Howard from Canberra some day and ask him to tell you of Barbie, the one from the Immigration Department social club. She has great holidays and no doubt gets the others to multiply. He tells a great story where she holidays, including with him.

Nothing to do with Swiss Army Knives, but

If Barbie is so popular why do you have to buy her friends?????

Geoff.
Geoff,

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

Hope you find it Chumps. I'd hate to lose mine - I've had it for years and years.

Might be a bit tricky finding it along those powerline tracks - they're pretty muddy. Are you talking Newnes itself or just outside the back of Lithgow near the old railway on the way in to Bungleboorie (the back way)?

Hope you find it.

Even if I had found it, I wouldn't have picked it up. In NSW it is illegal to carry any sort of knife without lawful excuse. It's up to the policeman to decide if he wants to accept your excuse - if not, you face a $500 fine and a you will have a Criminal Record for 10 years.

This is not one of those laws that gets applied in extreme circumstances (in a gang on dark Friday night) - it gets used regularly - I know from close experience.

It's also against the law to have larger than 15mm higher tyres, more than 2 spot lights, more than a 15% power increase, take the back seats out of a 7 seater.

I bet noone here has broken any of these laws.....

On a different slant, it is illegal for children to buy cigarettes, but not to smoke them. Legal age of consent is 18 for boys, 16 for girls. It is illegal to copy music off a bought CD, even if it is onto an iPod or something.

If a cop wants to get narkey about a swiss army knife, and ignore the knives in my camping kitchen, and my 8 cell mag light, the hammer, axe (both small and large), and quite a few other implements, good luck to him! For $500, i wouldn't go bush without a knife.....

How many other people in here would go bush without a blade of some description

A mate of mine was picked up with a knife in his bag during an anti terrorist exercise on Sydney Rail and they didn’t even confiscate the knife when he said it was for work, as long as you pass the attitude test you should be fine.

"as long as you pass the attitude test you should be fine"

- That's the point Im trying to make, it's totally up to the officer whether you face a $500 Infringement Notice and an Expensive Court Case - or life just goes on.

absolute crap....a multipurpose knife just so long as its covered...not pulled out for any offensive reason, is not illegal...trying to sneek it into a night club might be.
same goes for multipurpose tools...keep them enclosed unless using them for a genuine non offensive reason!

carrying a fishing knife in its plastic sheath or the like may warrant further investigation and rightly so!

ive walked into the cop shop many times with my leatherman....so all could see!...the brown leather case

"absolute crap....a multipurpose knife just so long as its covered...not pulled out for any offensive reason, is not illegal..."
- read up on the Knife Act and get your facts straight. Or talk to a Policeman or a lawyer in NSW. It is illegal to carry any form of knife or cutting instrument without lawful excuse - AS INTERPRETED BY THE OFFICER.

"exactly...its a tool so you have a lawful reason to have it on you "
- if it has a knife on it you have to convince the officer that you have a lawful excuse to carry it in public.

My son was carrying a multitool at 9.30 one morning while walking with one friend. He had never been in trouble with the police. The knife was for peeling fruit - NOT accepted as a lawful excuse. People carrying tiny sewing scissors in their sewing kit have been charged under this law.

ASK a policeman what the laws are today in NSW - and see if they can explain "lawful excuse".

"People carrying tiny sewing scissors in their sewing kit have been charged under this law".? i find that hard to believe

the coppers only makes an allegation...its up to you to prove it, albeit it in a court of law!

its not the Knife Act either.....well at least I cant find it....probably in the Summary offences ACT somewhere

in any event...it is not illegal to carry such things providing you have a lawful reason!....must be able to stand up in court

as i said before as an example, taking a fishing knife to a disco is not lawful....your out to catch fish in the disco's aquarium?????come now......

we have a similar ACT here in SA as well!
Carrying a screwdriver into a disco will also be considered unlawful!...unless of course your there to fix the airconditioning or something etc etc as I do

Mike,

Sounds like your son was being a bit of a smarte arse to the cop....

Why would you carry a multi-tool just for peeling fruit?

Was just up there last weekend and done the power line run all the way to the back of Endless belts -

anyone else been down that huge hill ? Got back up ok but mates Hilux diesel would not get up at all -- he had to be snatched up as he could not get any traction what so ever - even after letting tyres down

Mighty Nissan Patrol and the 4 runner done it will little effort :)
