G'day everyone,
Does anyone know where the Army auction off their Land Rover 110's? I am keen to find out what prices they sell for with a view to getting my hands on one.
Cheers
Pete

Contact Pickles Motor Auctions on Moorebank Ave, Moorebank, NSW. They sell them there occasionally; however, there aren't too many on todays market yet.
After 22 yrs in the Army I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to get one - I 've seen how they have been driven.

I was one of those
young, gung-ho drivers... I wouldn't buy an ex-army unit just because everyone in my transport platoon was exactly the same, even the transport NCO had poor regard for how the equipment was used. Give a bunch of 17 year old boys licenses and Landies, make sure they know the taxpayer will have to cover any damage and unfortunately 2+2 always seems to equal 5.

PJY, the Army doesn't sell off vehicles unless they have reached their end of life or are really buggered so if you do find one, Caveat Emptor. LRA did produce some 110s with the 3.9L Isuzu Diesel but they are rare as Rockinghorse bussiness. The 110 chassis hasn't changed much since the LRA days, the body pannels are now thinner alloy but thats about it. the main change is the engine and transmission and whilst they are bomproof they make the 2.8L Hiluxes look like rockets.
If you are keen for an Army Landy, keep your pennies for a coupple of years and you will find the 2nd hand market flooded with them when Project Overlander (LAND 121) Brings in the replacement (which may
well end up as the completely unsuitable for Australian conditions Hummer)

The best thing about a 110, is getting out of it. Just had two years of driving them for 4-5000 km and they don't make the best long distance tourer.
Only have a 4 speed transmission!
poor seating position
haven't driven one that steers straight
no sway bars, so they rock and roll all over the place
But as a bush basher they are great although I'd fit a set of diff lockers as the SASR have done with their patrol vehicles.
But, be aware, as said previously, we don't get rid of them until they are absoulutely, and I mean beyond economical repair, before we get rid of one. Which usually means the chassis is stuffed in some way. We change engines and transmissions like people change their under wear, so it is usually something pretty bad to write one off.
I've driven some that have been on their 2nd or 3rd engine, bent drive shaft and all they do is fix it and put it back on the road.
Until they start replacing the entire fleet (around 2010) you won't find many.
