I know this is a bit off topic but can any one recommend a removalist and / or vehicle transportation service? We are moving from Sydney to Perth early next year and need to get organised. I hear you can get good rates from backloading companies but how do I find these? Any help at all will be appreciated. Thanks

Alan

Unfortuntely you are going the wrong way for backloading. As most of the freight comes in to WA from the East the trucks go back empty so they offer cheap rates on the return(west to east) Leg.

Cant help wth recommending a removalist but several years ago i bought a car in Melbourne. It worked out cheaper to fly over and drive it back than what car transporters wanted. And i got a holiday. Fuel was cheaper then, but airfares were more expensive (pre virgin).

Might just be better option for you drive the car accross.

Hi Alan,

Unfortunately I just don't have the time to drive across, our son is only 10 weeks old now and I can't get time off work.
I am sure I'll get it sorted, TNT offer a service and another alternative is putting theLandcruiser on the train (except you can't book a spot).

Looking forward to living in Perth :-)

Thanks anyway, cheers, Alan.

I will drive it over for you. You just pay the fuel, accommodation and food and I will pay for the return airfair. Sounds good to me.

Where do I pick it up and on what date.

Thanks for the offer but I can put the car on the train for $200 less that the cost of the diesel bill alone!

Alan,

I just rang the transport company we use to get goods from Brissy to Perth cheaply and they suggested to call Direct Freight on 02 9738 9700.
I don't know this company at all but the mob we use up here are extremely cheap going east west so hope the mob in Sydney is same.
Good luck and happy times in WA.

Regards Trevor.

Thanks for the contact, I called them and they are not interested in transporting personal belongings. Not even interested in quoting for a $20 ft container than I can pack and unpack myself. Much apprecited.

Thanks for the tip, I have been asking people to quote for exclusive use of a 20 ft container as the stuff we have will just about fill one.

Hi Mick,

I found that site too but thanks. I filled in one online quote and got 4 replies, three with different rates. I think I'll call the bloke who quoted the cheapest...

I moved from Canberra to Cairns earlier this year. Best quote was Wridgways $2270, Great Northern Removals (won't do Perth I think;-) $2300. A mob from Toowomba quoted $5,500 for the same job !!!! Just shop around...

BTW, I had about 1/2 of a 20' container.

Good luck

About $4k and upwards are the prices I am getting for the volume of a 20 ft container. Sounds about in line with the quotes you received, thanks. One place has quoted $8k, yeah right!

I did the move going the other (wrong!) way Perth to Sydney and after much ringing around found Grace Brothers cheapest for household stuff. A friend had recently done a similar move to Brisnyland and also found Grace cheapest.

Something to remember - the less you move with, the cheaper it gets, and you get to buy more new better stuff in your new home! Removalists usually charge by volume, so bulky things like fridges, washing machines cost the most - so unless they are brand new, leave them behind and buy new. Using a sea container is a different story though....

As for cars the cheapest quote I got was $700 by train (2 1/2 years ago) I hear it is more expensive transporting from Sydney. I ended up selling my car(s) in WA and buying one over here in Sydney.

I must say though, I am a little envious of you moving to Perth!! If you like the outdoors, and must live in a City, Perth is the city to live in.

Good luck!

Thanks Justin,

Since we found out junior was making an appearance we have accumulated "stuff" at an alarming rate. We only moved back to Oz 2 years ago and all we had then were a couple of suit cases. Not sure what happend!

Can't wait to move to Perth. It has a great reputation as a nice place to live. And I have to live in a city for work but luckily I have negotiated a transfer so at least we don't have that stress....

I'll give Grace Brothers a call, cheers

Hi Alan
We moved from Melbourne to Perth and got a back load with Aarons removals and freight. Don't know if they have office in Sydney but they were the cheapest we could find a few years back.
