Hi there

Just wondering if people could recommend a good camping spot within an hour to two of Sydney. We are looking for something with a bit of privacy, and not a piece of lawn but actual sites.

We are new to Australia!

Thanks so much,

Lianne

How close to Sydney do you want to be? There is a great camp ground right in Sydney at Lane Cove. I think! In the caravan park. Natural bush and a great place to stay if you have to be in town. It's not your typical caravan park. There is bush all around, birdlife and walks, with a bus down the road into town, about 15 mins away

Thanks for your response!

We don't mind driving a bit even up to 2 hours, the biggest issue is that we want privacy, our own site and not in a big field with a bunch of people.

Any other recommendations would be great!

Thanks so much,

Lianne

Hi Lianne, yeah even though I'm in Vic, I once lived in Newcastle. If you want a great camping spot why not investigate the Watagan mountains....not far to the north of Sydney

G'day Lianne

This site offers a good book in respect to camping close to Sydney - BoilingBilly publications, "4WD Treks Close to Sydney".

I also would recommend the Watagan State Forest:
. about an hour north of Hornsby
. heaps of bush camping
. designated camping areas have basic facilities and are quite spacious
. great scenary
. State Forest maps are readily available and pretty accurate.

The Watagans behind Gosford and Newcastle are good for an over nighter.
