Hi

can't help re Southern Cross, but have a look at Tambo, www.tambocampers.com.au, fantastic product at a great price, though I think there's a waiting list for them at the moment they're becoming so popular, I don't have one, but a friend does, and I have to say I'm really impressed.

cheers

Lyn

Hi haryey18
I know the guys at Southern Cross and I can recommend that they do great canvas work, have been making camper trailers for years and that I have never heard a bad word about the product.
Well worth a look.
Ian will surely look after you

harvey18,
I use a Southern Cross Camper, picked it up just prior to xmas 1997.
They are using another "trailer" builder now and am informed they do a better job with the metal work and suspension, however I'm not complaining and am happy with mine as it's done over 100,000 Klms now.
You used to be able to have them custom made to suit your own needs (maybe still can, ask) and I had the 'plastic' mattress moisture barrier side wall made higher due to a thicker mattress being used, had all metal to canvas hard contactable areas separated by leather, two gas cylinders, two spare tyres, and one fuel carrier fitted, I fitted two extra fuel jerry can carriers when I got it home.

The "total canvas tent and annex" area was also made wider for me and I have 4mt x 4.2mt under canvas, the ‘annex area’ has sides that are zippered at the corners to give a bit of (well the thought is there) security and protection from the wind & rain, while still allowing any or all of them to be rolled up individually and having the air flo through.

Another supplier I was very impressed with was in Dandenong, DINGO Campers, in a back street or lane, I think near the yakult factory? http://www.dingocampers.com.au

Dingo did not make the canvas tent product at that time, only the trailer, which I admit was very, yes very, impressive, however the canvas tent product at that time was not changeable and I believe it’s better to be made to suit your intended use and be fully customisable to suit you, that's the only reason I went to Southern Cross.

hope this info assists

Dont know a huge amount about their trailers but their Canvas work is first rate. They are the same Southern Cross as the Tents.

Haven't heard anything bad about them.

Another few Victoria CT's makers. Tambo make good budget trailers but they have a LONG waiting list. Dingo CT's normally get a good rap , except if you have to deal directly with the Male Owner . . . nightmare. His son or wife are fine.

I have a Heards Canvas CT (as do a few others on here). Made in Shepparton, and is a good budget CT. Mine is a full offroader , with extended tent (16ft) , and cost me $7500 brand new.

Another is O'Briens. They make an excellent CT, but starting pric is around $10k. If that fits your budget, well worth looking at.

Hi,

Re Southern Cross campers. They have been around for at least 20 years and I know an elderly couple that had a southern cross camper and thought that it was fantastic. The company has been in the same location and is very reputable. I have not used one of these campers but have only heard good things. The fact that they are still making them 20 years on can only be good.

I have done some looking and found a company in Seaford, Casuarina Campers, that will custom make to suit your needs. They also have their own range. They are now making one for me that should be ready by the end of the month so I can take the family to the High Country for cup weekend.
Most offer all the goodies, but I wanted an off the back model, treg coupling, eye to eye spring, a slide out kitchen (using all my cooking stuff), solidly constructed frame & electric brakes and the trailor to be the same size as the tent base. They were more than happy to do this and so far have been a great help doing a fantastic job at achieving this.
Im unable to post pics but have done so on my 4WD club forum so to see the build up chect out
