I have been told not to gas my 95 Jackaroo because of head problems. Will new seats and valves fix the problem? Do colder plugs fix the problem?

Hi Peter I have a 2001 jack and i too wanted to put in gas but was told by a well respected gas conversion shop that the jack's have to do at lest 150000 k's before they would concider putting gas on because from new the seats and valves are not hard enough and they seem to be ok after 150000. He also said that the rodao's are ok from new because they are built somewere else. The chamber in the head gets much hotter running on gas then on petrol.

the Problem is the heads cracking between the exhaust and spark plugs.
You got to weld up the head the head then re-machine the whole lot.
Its not pretty.

My 3.2 Rodeo has run on LPG for 170,000kms and had a couple of burnt valves/seats after 120,000. Previous owner had it and foot the bill (about $2500) for that though......lucky me.

Have heard about the head cracking problem.
Do the Jack's run hotter than a Rodeo?............
I really wouldn't think LPG is a problem on the Jack's as long as the cooling system is up to scratch and gas/air mixtures are right, and the valves and seats for gas are installed.

To all those who replied, thanks very much. I might try experimenting with Rodeo heads on a Jackaroo.
Cheers

Is there a difference between Jackaroo and Rodeo heads?

I thought they were basically the same motor except for the ECU chips

I have also had no luck getting a gas conversion done on my 94 model Jackaroo.
I have spoken to literally dozens of suppliers and installers all over Sydney and have had lots of different stories, but not to do with head problems. Mostly they say it's that the engine's management systems can't cope with the gas. I thought the Flashlube attachment was supposed to overcome the valve seat problems. I've been running an old '82 model on gas for 15 years, with a Flashlube kit attached. I'm told that all fuel injected Jackaroos are unsuitable for gas conversion. I'm bitterly disappointed not to be able to convert the '94 model and am now thinking that I will sell it. It's an excellent vehicle with only 86000 genuine kms. If anyone's got any more clues about converting the fuel-injected Jackaroos, I'd love to hear from you.

Before you go running around in circles, may I suggest you contact
Mr Peter Linahan at LPGAustralia on +61 (2) 9319 4733 and ask him to comment on where you stand.
He knows the facts and, what he doesn't know, he'll point you in the right direction.
Also visit here to find the inside goss on LPG.
I recently converted my Mazda E2000 and he told me what, where, why etc etc.
I now have the right system (the one originally designed for my vehicle, courtesy of Peter) installed, by a reputable installer, and haven't looked back. I actually giggle everytime I see the price at the pumps.
My van cost me 6.4c/km to run.
