G'day all. Has anyone had warranty issues by using Ryco filters? Bought an air and oil filter the other day for the better half's car and noticed that printed on the boxes was the statement "Warranty Protection Guaranteed".

Are Ryco filters as good as the genuine Nissan, and if so, why should I pay more for the genuine ones?

Cheers :-)

P.G. I have my own mechanical repair business, recently the Ryco rep. came around and explained the warranty guarantee. They claim to make the majority of the OEM filters and therefore guarantee their product to meet the manufactureres requirements. as for pricing, you'll probably find even cheaper products out there that'll do the same job! However Ryco are the only company that I'm aware of that has thsi guarantee.

Ryco lost a bit court case on this issue a few years back. A manufacture can VOID your warranty if you use anything else but a genuine filter. In the court case the genuine and aftermarket filter were both made by Ryco and where exactly the same, but the High Court held that the manufacturers were with in their right to specify genuine filters must be used to retain warranty. No genuine filter no warranty.

Hi PG
Used a non genuine air filter (NOT Ryco) and found ofter 10000 k that the lower seall had compressed allowing dust to get past the top seal. Luckily only damage was an airflow sensor which nissan replaced under warranty (not all dealings with nissan are bad, they did charge me for a genuine air filter though).
Considering that an engine rebuild is reportedly $13000 + I cant see the economy of not using genuine filters
My 2 cents worth anyway

Hi all,
I have tried both and found the genunie one to give me better fuel economy on my 3.0TD, cost difference was minimal, I got the genuine one for about $25 and the repco was abou $22. Looking at both filters closley the repco one had a finer gap between the airflow area, both get clogged the minute you get on a dirt road though, bad design of air flow pick up point, I will snorkel the car soon.

A bit of a late post but I have been out in the Simpson for the last 3 weeks.
Here is a link from my website and an extract from the IAME journal (Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers)
Genuine Parts
I know it doesn't answer what a court will say but I agree with Darren at ATS about the Ryco rep as they said the same to me. I still use genuine filters on vehicles under warranty.

Hi All,

I own Sydney Filter Services, and we supply non genuine filters for trucks, earthmoving and 4WD.
Using non genuine filters, doesnt void your warranty, as long as you are using the correct filter.
I am happy to answer any of your questions, as well as giving you prices.
