Hi, After my previous post looking for caravan storage wheels and finding the item was in fact still too large for my purposes, I had a thought.

What if I used a brake drum that was slightly larger than the 10" ones fitted to the caravan, even if these were put on backwards it would get me out of trouble.

The only problem is, do these larger brake drums exist.
I know the GU patrol uses discs allround, but what about the GQ / MK or maybe 80 series cruisers or earlier.

What I am looking for is a pair of old brake drums with 6 studs with landcruiser / patrol spacings.
( 6 stud 140mm PCD )

Can anyone tell me if any of these vehicles had drum brakes on the rear it would be helpfull, then I can start looking around the wreckers etc.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark,

Why not consider making up a couple of "trolleys".
Take the wheels off the Van and sit the axle on low profile trolleys each side so the brake drums are just clear of the floor.

If you are into motor sport, you might have seen trolleys that are placed underneath the wheels of race cars to assist in garage manoeuvrability.

Just a thought.

G'day Mark, time to hit the caravan accessory places. 12 inch off road trailer brake drums are available. Often used on 3-4 tonne trailers ;-)

Hi, all I did was get some second hand wheels and removed the rim so that all that was left is the flat, centre part that is attached to the wheel centre. This makes it marginally larger than the drums and gives a flat surface of about 50 - 60 mm. All you need is someone with a decent size lathe for a nice clean job, although you could do it with a grinder if you had the patience.
Cheers

MQ\K Patrols have drums on the rear & are 6 stud. Most cruisers pre 88 would have the same.
