I had a Franz Filter on my VW for many years and thinking fitting one to My Landcruiser. I think they are worth having but would love to hear what everybody else is thinking. I'm not a mechanic and I noted there is a lot of people in here who know about motors and stuff.
Thanks
Reiner

I had one years ago too, while they work ok on a relatively clean petrol engine I found that it quickly blocked up when fitted to a diesel due to all the soot and went into bypass mode ie no filtering. If fitted as an additional external bypass filter it might be worth while but with all the additional hoses and connections and fittings to break, loosen and dump the contents of the sump on the road leading to total engine failure I decided it wasn't worth while. Especially as most do not keep the vehicle long enough to have it pay off.
Remember most new vehicles are not expected to last past 5 years, especially the japs.

Try Filter technology, good unit, i have one fitted to both our patrols, i extend the oil changes and saves money, good for 4x4 if you go offroad, removes dirt and dust and carbon down to 1 micron.. Best buy a car type, much smaller , and change the filter more often. Michael

If you’re still interested you can buy the remote head for either a single or twin filter and the mounting plate for the engine block.
The cost of the mounting plate is about $70, the single filter remote head is about $80 and the twin remote head is about $130.
Usually the filters to use are either the Z9 or the Z30 style – cheap and easy to buy. Hoses can be custom made by the likes of Enzed hoses – don’t know how much though.
I’d be concerned that bits of the
toilet paper would enter the oil galleries, especially the recycled paper ones – and the Franz style filters are damn messy to service too.

Banjo, i dont see the point of installing more ordinary spin-ons, the micron size is way to high to do the job a by-pass filter is supposed to do. The Frantz and Filter technology filter down to 1 micron, spin-ons only down to 20micron if you are lucky. Michael

I've recently installed a AMSOIL dual head unit on the GU 4.2 diesel Patrol. Am getting my oil analysed every few thousand klicks to start with.....have now done about 12,000klm since last oil change. I'm using AMSOIL's 100% synthetic oil.
Cheers

Toilet roll filters are a waste of time and money ( yours ) they don`t get
mine.
See posts 15993,16027,17991, and 18255. If a by pass filter has coventional filter paper, it would probably be ok.
Toilet paper--- defintely not in my estimation.
