Hello All,
I am considering chipping the TD5 diesel engine for the extra performance. I am curious to note if any one have recoded any changes in fuel consumption and or exhaust fumes.
I am sure this is a fairly standard upgrade but have not heard any long term reports on the engine performance.
All the best Jules.

Jules,
There is a site called www.aulro.com
This is a Aussie Land Rover site which will have all the info on chipping a Td5. By all reports it's easy to chip, you will have more power and torque particularly when towing & the economy decreases only slightly.
The Discovery is a pleasure to drive as is....a chipped one is even better!!!
Cheers,
Lyndon.

Jules
I have heard a rumour that the 200 kW version uses a little more fuel ;-)

Hi Jules my Disco is chipped, i'm one of alot of TD5 owners that have chipped there TD5, of all the companys that have a chip for them B Davis is by far the cheapest.
If your not in
Sydney you can post your ECU to him and he'll post it back to you chipped, turn around is 5 days.
First chip upgrade gives you 130Kw of power and 420Nm of torque, if you have the dollars there is an intercooler upgrade as
well, if you have the intercooler and chip upgrade first up your power will be 165Kw and 500Nm now thats an upgrade.
Oh all you V8 Disco II owners, the V8 chip is coming ;-))))
I'm happy with just the chip only.
Baz.

Howdy
I've got the BD chip also, no intercooler upgrade. Blows a little smoke initially, but overall happy with the chip only also.

Jules
Have the chip and intercooler upgrade and do notice a marked increase on take off after the turbo kicks in. After that it really is just an increase in torque you feel, then again if I got back in a std Td5 I would prob notice heaps more difference - you get use to the power.
Exhuast smoke is up only on start up, but there is a black ring around the end of the pipe now. Fuel economy is same.

Jules,
changes in fuel economy will be depend on how you drive. Keep off the go pedal and you are likely to see an improvement.
Get on the juice, and expect the car to be a lot more interesting to drive, with a POSSIBLE reduction in economy.
I would suggest you also go with a free flowing exhaust system at the same time, as I have (but not on a TD5). My economy is unchanged, but I do drive a little quicker than was possible before (but not over the limit of course!).
