Well, we just got back home and we bought two things. A Kipor generator and one of those dual battery LED voltage/charge monitors. The Kipor 1000 cost $899 inc gst (which I can claim back) and they threw in a $10 plastic jerry.Whoopee.

I know that up in Qld you can get Kipors for $80-$100 cheaper but I was advised that they may not have warranty due to serial numbers not being recorded. At least that was what the salesman said and also in a recent thread when I said I was after a gennie, someone mentioned similar. And freight to here would have been $40.
Now, before anyone gets on the solar panel bandwagon or the "let's keep gennies out of camping grounds" soapbox, I do have a farm that the Kipor will be used on. So there. Nah nah ha ha. Thanks everyone for their previous imput. Rus.

My gadget purchase was a set of Phillips replacement light bulbs. H4 for the mains and H3 for the standard (IPF) Nissan spots. The nice man at the TJM stand sold them to me for $70 the lot. He had a very convincing display set up to show how his lights are 50% brighter! It is all a bit subjective. However the replacements are the same specs as Original Equipment so no wiring/relay changes are required (straight from the horses mouth).

When I came to fit them of course I found that it was not quite as easy as the Nissan owner's manual would have you believe. It was almost impossible to get my hand down between the air filter and the back of the fitting on the LHS. However after plenty of cussin' and swearin' I managed it (about one hour's fiddling).

I can't report on the improvement as yet because the moonlight last night was so bright that I couldn't tell the difference.

The 4WD show was pretty much the same as usual in its new location. The gear on Michelle's stand looked very good but very expensive. You can easily pick up similar bits and pieces from the canvas people for a fraction of the cost.

I had my hands treated by some people selling some sort of lotion. I declined their offer for me to purchase a jar at $45.00.

Hey Kings, you've done bloody well to be able to get the left globe changed without moving the air box champ!!! I found I had to undo the 3 nuts underneath the guard and move it back a few mm to get my fat claw in there. This is when I found out how poorly sealed the airbox is to the inner guard!!! and I must remember to stick some silicon in there at some stage (but that'll make it bloody hard to move the box next time I wanna change the globe again...ggrrrrr)

I'm still happy with the pair of "blue" H4s I bought of ebay for 1 cent (plus $11.50 postage from Honkas)

Cheers mate

If any one is still interested, I have now been for a drive on a dark and cloudy night. The improvement is dramatic with the new bulbs. The light is definitely whiter and throws further down to road on both Hi and LO.

I can thoroughly recommend them. (Phillips White Light)

PS Roachie, my arm is healing nicely after all the bruises and scratches.

Well I didn't buy anything, but Bev bought a solar panel to enable "quiet" charging of the accessory battery. (While she sleeps in, no doubt)

Then we had a serious discussion with the man from "Black Widow" and will soon be able to leave the recovery gear, etc. in the Jack between trips.

Was a cheaper visit than last year at least:-)

Didn't meet up with anybody from EO, even though I was "flying the flag" with my EO Cap.

Hi Rus,

Would be interested in a report on the Kipor somewhere down the track after you've had a chance to use it a bit.

Regards,
John.

sure thing. I looked at Honda, Yamaha and Kipor. They all had very similar dimensions, so size wasn't a factor. They all had similar fuel tank capacities, similar running times, similar noise output, similar weight similar output wattage, all had similar warranty. The prices did vary. Roughly $1500, $1400 and $900 respectively.

I've given the Kipor a short run and all is OK. I drilled some big holes and ran a floodlight. I didn't try my big angle grinder 'cause it's 2300w and that might be a tad too much to expect.

The other brands would work the same, obviously up to 1000w, but the price difference was what got me. Rus.

I have seen a Kipor and a Honda run side by side and the honda seemed to handle sudden draws of current better. The Kipor seemed to handle less load although to the layman like me the output ratings are the same.

With the number of gennies in 4x4 club,s someone is likely to do a comparative test.

What I want is a reliable 2000 watt output generator - much more flexible, but $$$.
