Hi there Stan, just noticed in your pics that you did the vic high country, was this a tag along group or just a bunch of friends, we are doing that trip next year I think in april with a tag along tour, (Misty Mountains Tours) in Sydney, would it be cold that time of year, also wanted to know hows the prado go through the deep water crossings eg do you have any probs with water being a petrol, as my wife wants to get rid of our hilux 2.8D and get a later model in auto but a v6 3.4L due to the cost of diesel and is complaing about the cost of changing oil so often. Have weighted up the cost of oil/filters/cost of fuel etc and would be better off with petrol and being a hilux we wont have the weight of a patrol/landcruiser so fuel usage wont be a concern. If I was getting a patrol/landcruiser than I wouln't buy any thing else but diesel due to fuel usage. Would be fitting snorkel, diff, transmission breathers etc. Thanks for your time. Regards Vitara

As a trial to see if they worked, as a Range Rover set is over $300, I put a Fitch in the tank of my Honda Hornet 900, which I ride to work every day over the same route.
There appeared to be a difference of about 5% in fuel economy, but there are many variables. I went from about 260KM per tank when the red light went on , to about 285KM, but then this winter I am back to 260Km, so was it just the temperature that affected the economy?
So It will take a looong time to pay back if there is any difference at all. IMHO forget the claims of 20%.
Now ask me about a Hyclone, NOT!!!

What is it with people like you? If it did nothing for your car then get your money back. Same as Hiclone. Both companies offer money back guarantee. So don't come on here bagging a company , use your energy on getting a refund. I know lots of people who swear by hiclones.

These fuel saving devices are all marketed in the same way and that is because there are 2 government agencies they wish to remain under the radar of. These 2 agencies are the EPA and Consumer Affairs.
To avoid coming under the scrutiny of the EPA is really quite simple, if I want to sell a product for a vehicle it must not adversely effect the emissions of that vehicle. It doesn't have to improve emissions or improve economy it just has to pass the test. No judgement is made by the EPA regarding its worth, it simply passes the test or it does not.
For instance, I could make a product which installs into a vehicle and does b@gger all and so long as it passes the test (remember it doesn't have to be better) the EPA is happy.
Now for Consumer Affairs, again, it's pretty simple. I offer a money back guarantee and here's the really clever bit. " I actually honour that guarantee" Of course there's a reasonable time limit and of course there's the inevitable stalling "Oh, you need two of those devices in your particular model car. Or, that wasn't the best place to install on your particular car it needs to be installed here instead."
Often by that time, the money back time limit has expired but if the customer really wants to argue the fact I'll just give him a refund to show him just how reputable our company is even if it has gone over the agreed money back time limit.
The reason I do this is because I know that for every refund I have to make that on average I might sell 20 or 50 or whatever number which aren't returned. The selling price of the unit incorporates a figure which allows for X percentage refunds.
So now I've got the EPA happy, Consumer Affairs happy and if the customer wants a refund then he's happy too. And most of all I'm happy because I'm selling more units than are returned.
Regards Andrew.

Well its obvious that some of us live in a perfect world where one can take off and do a decent meaningful test on a product IMMEDIATELY.
It was several months before I had a chance to test the Hyclone over several tanks with and without, as anything less than a highway trip is meaningless. Past the return period.
Also, unlike many people I do not tend to be fooled by the "halo" effect. ie buy something and find a benefit where there is none. I bought the Hyclone on the recommendation of a friend who swore by it, with figures like 25MPG from a Rangie. It (much) later transpired that this was only on one tank, and probably due to a filling error , but the enthusiasm knew no bounds
With the Fitch, it is in the tank of my Honda motorcycle. I would have to dismantle the bike to get it out. It is doing no harm there so what the heck, and it MAYBE gives some benefit.( but not enough for me to spend the hundreds on the one for the Range Rover)
I find people who criticise people for giving an opinion when asked a bit strange particularly when the person with the opinion has done valid tests on the product. Why do you try to stifle what a forum is for??? Are only favourable opinions accepted??? or only ones you agree with???
Its really my business whether I elect to return the thing, but that is a separate issue to my experience with the product.
In summary, neither the Fitch or the Hyclone makes any meaningful improvement in the applications that I tried them in. It may be different in other cases such as diesels for example.

Thanks for the comments.
I am very suspect about dealers claims that is the reason for posting the question.
And that is what is good about forums such as this one.
We are can express our opinions and experiences.
Thats what a democacy is.
Thanks
