Can anyone advise if these are sold at government auctions or similar.
We can only seem to find 3.0 turbo models but we would really prefer the 4.2 dieslel model Between two and five years old.
Thanks in advance

We are located in Sydney but are prepared to look anywhere.
Thanks
Chris.

Cobes

Don't take my word as Gospel, but personally I think the 3.0lt is a much better engine, more power from a smaller capacity engine by using fuel more efficiently. There have been a few people on this forum wanting to know how to get better fuel ecconomy out of their 4.2TD patrol, simple trade them in on a 3.0ltr and if you want more power again buy a Safari DTronic unit (best $1500 I ever spent). I have had mine for 12 months now and covered nearly 50,000km of some of the hottest outback highways around in the Pilbara regualarly getting 11-12 L/100km (sitting on 110-120 km/h in oftern 40 deg plus temps). I wouldn't upgrade mine for anything, well except maybe a Sahara TD cruiser but the purse strings wouldn't stretch that far at the time. But plenty of people I know are also happy with there 4.2 TD Patrols.

old news dude. Most probs pertain to the old 3.0l plus has the same gearbox as the 4.2. You hear about the odd turbo on the 4.2 also and compressors get changed because mud gets into the clutch. This happens on many vehcles.

Hey Cobes, very hard almost impossible, I looked for quite a while and ended up just buying new, just way too hard... And yes I considered going the 3L but just could not do it to myself, so many more advantages than disadvantages with the 4.2L....

Any one who has one, you will find they will hang on to them for ten years at least, "why" because they will last that long at a minimum...

Good Luck,

Babs..

There was also a bloke at Eudunda (SA) trying to sell a 4.2 DX model on ebay recently with a starting price of $29K. It was a 2000 model and hadn't done too many klicks (about 110,000 I think). It looked VERY clean and would have been an excellent buy. It didn't get any bids. I only know about it cos I contacted the bloke to see if he'd sell me his side steps and brush bars (but he wouldn't :-(( ).
So if you wanted a DX, I might see if I can locate his details (but not sure if I've kept any of the info).
Cheers

At least one or two every two weeks...
Pay through the nose for the 4.2 low k...
They normally go for about 42k and they are rough...Most govt people dont give a rats about the cars they drive which is evident on auction day....

Cobes

Check the "Queensland Public Trustee" website (particularly regional locations). They have two categories - cars for auction, and cars for sale. The cars for sale have been through an auction and passed in. Once this happens you can contact the Public Trustee Office and they will tell you the reserve, or asking price. New listings appear on the auction catalogues when released. There have been some 4.2 TD Nissan Wagons coming through from time to time, including an 18 month old DX with 18,000 on the clock, also a very clean 2004 ST, white with some accessories, 48,000kms reserve of $45,000.

Regards,
Greg

I was looking in the car section of the Melb. Age wednesday before last and there were 3 or 4 4.2 patrols from '00 to '02 and one was fully kitted out. So they are around and not as rare as some think.
