Hi all, I have a query regarding the Kerio Energy Knight.

I had an Acer laptop which I happily charged when on the road using the Kerio, however, I have just upgraded to a Dell Inspiron 6000 and none of the tips which came with the charger fits.

I was wondering if anyone out there know whether Kerio has ow will released a tip for the Dell Inspiron 6000. I have emailed them and have not received a response.

Guess they only want to talk to retailers rather than individual customers.

Cheers,
Ray

Thanks John,

I know Dell have an auto/air charger however, I was hoping that I wouldn't need to spend that sort of money on a new one. Just hoping that maybe they've got a new tip for the Inspiron which would be a fraction of the cost of a whole new charger.

Cheers,
Ray

Hello Ray,
Go here and do a search, Kerio

My Dell, a D600 is listed as available now. I rang a local Dick Smith and they suggested if it was on the Kerio website they could get it.

Hope this helps,
Geoff.

Ray

When I bought my Kerio it came with 5 different connection tips. Now I am not sure if one of the spare 4 that I have is Dell orientated but it is worth a try.

Email me through my website below with your postal address and I can send them to you to try out.

Cheers

Thanks Willem but I've got the same thing.

I've just posted the reply from Kerio below with their recommendations.

Again, thanks for the offer.

Will try it out tonight now than I have been "warned"

Have a Kerio with spare tips that I have used on my thinkpad 600.

I have recently bought an Inspiron 6000 but haven't tried one of the tips on it yet.

By the way, not only the tip needs changing. The chances are you will need to insert a different "power module" as I think the Dell requires a 20 volt module.
The module looks like a blade fuse and also comes with the Kerio when bought new.

As I said, I will try it tonight and let you know the news. (good or bad)

Otherwise, I am up for a replacement adaptor too.

G'day all, just got the following reply from Kerio:

Dear Raymond,
Thanks for your inquiry.

Please insert 20V (Black) output voltage device and Tip K for your Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.
I can send Tip K to you (free of charge) by post.
Please advise your postal address.

Please note,
Inside your Dell AC adaptor has a special “IC” to detect power from Dell laptop.
Dell has the “patent” on their power IC, which connected to the centre pin.
Without Dell’s special IC, our adaptor could only power your Dell laptop and won’t recharge laptop's battery.

RAy,

Thanks for the update.

Just got home and checked my adaptor out and NO, none of the supplied tips fit.

Although Kerio have done their best and supplied an additional Tip (K), the fact that the Energy Knight cannot rechange the Laptop's internal battery means that only a limited solution is available.

Typical bloody Yankee Company (Dell) and their proprietary hardware.
Looks like I need to revert to my Inverter.

It's a pity because the Kerio is (was) a beaut and compact solution and it's not their fault. Buggered if i'm going to spend any more with Dell.

Sand Man, I'm with you there. I love the compact size of the Kerio and am a little disappointed.

However, I got the heavier duty battery in the Inspiron and only really use it to download pics at the end of every day. Hopefully if I do need to use the Kerio, it'll only be for short periods just to run the lappy.

I have a Kerio Energy Knight I and had used it for a few years with my Toshiba Protege laptop during airplane flights. However, I now have an IBM R51 laptop and after switching the power blade (to 16V) and the using the correct tip, my IBM R51 does not recognize this as a power source. When I use my multimeter, there is about 13Volts output. Any ideas? BTW - I also tried switching to the 15V power blade which has a 12.5V output on the multimeter and that also is not recongnized by the IBM laptop. FYI - I am using tip "C". Help.
