G'day, I was wondering if anyone in this forum uses a Navman GPS?

I am looking at getting either a ICN 520 or 610 and was wondering if anyone can tell me where I might find one for the cheapest price.

So far, I think Prestige Communications is the best bet (ICN 520 - $864, ICN 610 - 829) but was just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere else which may be cheaper?

In addition, does anyone know what the actual difference between the two models are?

Cheers,
Ray

Ray I dont want to put a dampner on the navman but we had 2 away with us this year and both failed.
the problem is they couldnt handle the off road stuff.
In my opinion they are more suited for on road stuff and only a little of road.

All the best
Eric

Thanks Eric,

I am in the process of researching some sort of In-car navigation system as I move fairly regularly. Saves on having to have a number of street directories.

I am trying to decide on a dedicated GPS unit like the Navman or go a PDA/GPS combination.

Am I wrong, or is the Navman unable to function as a "normal" GPS - i.e. you are unable to upload topo maps to it, etc. ??

I was under the impression that it was meant to be pretty useless in the bush as the thing is only designed to be a city direction finder and that's all....

I'm only after a street direction finder.

The reason is that I'm a member of the defence force and keep getting posted around. It's getting to the point where I'm starting to accumulate too many street directories and figure something like the navman would suit my purposes.

I usually run a Garmin eTrek when 4WDing.

You can buy a second hand PDA on Ebay with Destinator preloaded and you can install Oziexplorer CE for the bush. You can get holders with built in amplifier, speaker, charger and com port for ps2 mouse gps. I went this way all up under $500.00 been on a few 4wd trips with some hard options (Janowen Hills 4wd park) and no porblems to date.

Been searching on the net.

Any thoughts on the Acer N35 PDA/GPS bundle?

There's a store in WA selling them for $770.

Hi Ray
I use a 3450 sleeve with my Ipaq and have not had any problems, use the Navman software weekdays and OziEplorer on the weekends, off road and what have you.
These are on special on navmans site at the moment for $299.00 you will need a ipaq to use it though.
Cheers
Chris
