We have been offered a 1995 trac shak camper trailer in good nick apart from the two zips under the beds. All the canvas is very good. There is some surface rust, stone chips etc. The brakes may need a little work. The price offered is $5000 to $6000 and we have been told it will cost around $2000 to replace the panel and zips. We hired a cavalier recently but the set up and pack away with the annexe was a bit of a pain. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Many thanks Moerks

moerks,What size is it? I have had a Track Shak Queen Size hard top since 1994. Mine has no brakes (I ordered it that way) so I cannot comment on the brakes but I can recommend these trailers. To me they are the easiest to set up for the amount of room that you get when set up without having to add any annexe. Mine Cost me $10000 in 1994 and the replacement cost for the same size today would be $16000 to $18000! The suspention and shocks have handled everything that I have thrown at them the canvas is as good as new thanks to being enclosed in the hardtop. The system of having all the jerry can holders all around the sides in my opion is the best that I have seen on any trailer, you can put fuel or water jeries in them whatever you want at the time. I have replaced the zip on my front door(it gets the most use) and only had to wax the other zips. I would say the asking price is very reasonable,go for it! Nick G

Thanks for following up, it is two double beds so I guess it is the medium size. We need to followup the wax for the zips and see if that will make any difference.

I paid $21,000 for mine new 2 years ago , so yours sounds like a bargain . Mine is tough and has been through some bad territory withy no problems at all .
I think it is a bit of a pain to put up and down for just one night .
Cheers .

We have a Trak shak and cant fault it, and the one you are looking at sounds like a real bargain. Just make sure it's a real Trak Shak and not the cheaper ones made by deluxe...I have no idea how long they have been in production.

We hired a couple of different campers before we bought the TS, and it really is fantastic to set up, a genuine 10 mins with 2 to 3 ropes. I honestly don't think theres a better camper that has the space, room and ease of set up for up to 6 people. Any of us TS owners would be happy to answer any more questions you have...and if you decide not to buy it can you let me know where I could get it??

thanks, another question we have is that we noticed a bit of mildew under the mattresses , no signs anywhere on the canvas. We presume it is more from the condensation. My mother in law suggested putting damp rid or something simliar in the tent overnight. We noticed the mattress on the hire trailer also was a bit moist after a couple of nights and needed airing out every few days in damp weather. Do others experience this and any ideas?? thanks

We haven't had any problems with mildew under the mattress, but we have the extra room underneath and that mattress being on the ground gets damp. But we make sure it is thoroughly dried out before we pack the TS away for its next trip, so if that mattress is damp we would put it outside in the sun for a while.

We haven't had any trouble with condensation in the TS, which I assumed because it was so spacious and there wasn't a lot of build up...which occurs naturaly anyway.

If it was me and the mattresses had mildew I would replace them when I bought it, and just make sure it was properly aired before packing up. It's no real prob for overnight trips, but very important when it's put away for more than a couple of days

Buy it!!!

Mate of mine recently sold a 96 model for nearly $12,000 which is what it cost him. His was in excellent condition, better than what you describe but yours still sounds good.

My Trak Shak has been dragged all over Aus since 96 and we love it. The brakes on mine are also a bit dodgy but apparently if you swap the stub axles from right to left and left ot right it changes the angle of the cable and they work much better.

Duncs.

Re mattress, we had a camper with a foam mattres and had trouble with mildew due to condensation esp when up north. Solved the problem by making a lattice structure on the chipboard under the mattress with small size pine. Just needs a bit of extra space for air movement.

We have had a TS for 6 or 7 years and there toughness cann't be questioned.
With regard to the mildew under the mattress check to see if the wood under the mattress is not painted or varnished. We used to have a lot of trouble with a mattress getting damp after a night sleep ( I have been toilet trained ) on another CT we had. On mentioning this to Peter from TS he said your boards must have been painted and he was right. The old CT boards were Varnished.
We have had no trouble with the bear boards of the TS.

Un folding the two beds started to come a real chore because of the weight of lifting them. I have had the gas stuts re gassed and this has made a lot of difference. I should have done it before.
