Thanks to all you guys..Great info on DIY drilling of crack in wind-screen..Could not find a diamond drill in Emerald,Qld..Gal 'n I went out to Gemfields..Had top lunch/drinks at rustic Rubyvale Hotel (bet some of you little devils have sunk a few there) then went to "Cut 'n Slice" to get diamond drill..They do sell them, but were closed...No worries! Went to new Dick Smith store in Emerald..(I need a govenor on my plastic in those places..Love gadgets,'lectronix)..Got a kit includes five diamond burrs..1/8" shank..Ideal die-grinder..Amazing value just $19.95 Dig this! 150 items in the Kit No. T 4853 But,thanks to Kesh and you other guys,I used it in a batt drill to get slow speed..Used kero as lube..Took it slow in short bursts to keep heat down..Applied minimal pressure as instructed by you guys..Drilled 'till adhesive between two layers of glass came out..Stopped..Forum members had advised that crack would only be on outer glass laminate..It was!.Put alittle circular clear adhesive patch over it..Done!!..So ezy..Almost look foward to next rock..

Sounds like a great result RockOne. Sounds like the trip to Rubyvale wasn't an absolute waste of time hey! Did you glue the hole as was proposed(?) and what did you use?

Kind regards

Good result Rockyone.

Just remember that you'll need to seal the crack somehow, otherwise the interlayer will eventually start to discolour (go milky) in the area of the crack when water gets in, and possibly start to delaminate (top glass layer slowly separates from vinyl interlayer). Either way it may have an adverse effect on the view in that area.

I would recommend something thin in viscosity like superglue. Not to glue the glass (it won't) but to keep dust and water out. The resins that proprietary repairers use are pumped in under pressure so that leaves you few options.

Go to your local carpet layer and ask does he have any clear vynal liquid ( the stuff they seal vynal flooring joins with) ard get him to cover the crack the applicator they use will cover about 2 mm - he may think your mad but this stuff works-it dries clear
now for best results do it on a hot day after application hold an ice pack on the inside of the screen as it cools it sucks the glue into the crack its like superglue consistancy but dries flexible, when its dry trim flush if the wipers sweep over i use a disposable razor
i use it mostly for stone chips it works well
