Greetings all, is anyone experienced in fitting an auto auxiliary battery under the bonnet of a 2005 V6 petrol Prado? I see very little space in there, left or right side, and possibly a few mods or rehanging/relocation of gear depending on the selected mounting location. I am trying to weigh up this against simply fitting a deep cycle battery inside my camper. Naturally I would prefer to have the battery fitted in the vehicle. I would appreciate any constructive help. Thanks, Mulcs.

I have fitted an aux bty to my 2003 Prado 120 V6. Aux bty easily goes behind the rhs headlight once you move the power steering reservoir

Used a Pirahna tray & Redarc isolator (see previous posts). Quite a simple job & only complication is relocating that power steering reservoir (unbolt, then drill out the 3 rivets holding the top/bottom parts together & bolt the top half (the slide mount) to the new bracket which comes as part of the Pirahna tray)

PS: The kit shown in the replies above & also the SupercheapAuto kit both seem excellent value for money

Hi,

I had a dual battery system and Glind shower fitted by TJM Dandenong (Victoria) in the same model you have. The work was excellent and I have'nt had a problem.

Hope this helps.

Another option you could consider is the use of a "thumper" portable battery system. Available in different sizes they are a practical alternative to the installation of a "permanent" second battery for a similar cost.

The "thumper" is available as a "kit", complete with a Car Charging Kit, Anderson connectors and cable and a heavy duty jump start cable this system is a true and practical alternative to a "fixed" battery. And as the battery system is an AGM type, they are completely safe. A 75A/h unit is a practical size giving sufficient capacity while still being truly portable. And being AGM they charge up relatively quickly from the vehicle alternator.

When I get to a camp site, th thumper goes in the camper annex to run the fridge, fluros, etc.

Had I known of their availability before I installed my dual battery system, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the permanent one.

I am not connected with the manufacturer in any way. Just an owner/user of one of the most practical and portable power units I have stumbled across..

The Thumper is available from Blue Apple, Home of 12 Volt. (08 85362144) and they will deliver Australia wide.
