Hi all
looking for a place to go and prop between boxing day and new years day (inclusive). I keep promising myself to go to the Wonnangatta Valley and it seems like this could be
the spot this year- some tracks, a little fishing, cooling off in the river and a general relax.
I have heard a lot about it but never been there. Am I heading to the right place? Is all this possible from there? Have 3 kids who love to jump in the river if possible - is a
camp on the river OK there?
love some feedback to convince SWMBO that this is the place.
Cheers

Gazza,
The site of the old
homestead is a good spot to
camp. There are a few
places along the Wonnangatta river and a real good spot near the
homestead on the Conglomerate
Creek, under a grove of trees.
The only thing at that time of year will be the traffic passing through.
I will be going through there the week after next I can put your name on a
camp site and collect some wood for you. It should still be there when you get to
camp.

Hey Wayne that would be great. don't need a huge site it is just us - one freedom tent and the Prado. what is involved with putting a name on thesite? Up North in on eof the NP's there was a booking board where forward bookings were written in on a whiteboard. Is it that or just note on a stick?
Again thanks for the offer Wayne - appreciated.

Gazza,
I was there in 98/99 (i think) and found it to be a rippa spot for those things you mention, there was a fair bit of traffic but as it's a fairly spread out valley with numerouse spots to
camp it never felt to bad, think about arvo shade with your
camp site as it can get stinking hot,
the spot mentioned above near the old
homestead is
well shaded.
If your a fairly keen fisho, the best fishing to be had is by
parking at one of the several
creek crossings on the road that are at the
Dargo end of the Valley, and wade up stream casting Celtas ahead as you go you will be amased at the numbers of fish you will encounter, nothing of great size but keep a few of the better ones for a rippa feed.
P.S. Obviously
water levels dictate as to weather it's safe to do the river walk thing, and where some good foot ware as the rocks are slippery.
Cheers.......Browny

I was there early this year, LOVED IT, I'll have to upload some track plot files. Fire wood every where, take a chainsaw, helps with reducing amount of wood used & may help a recovery. Go & enjoy it. plenty of
places to swim.

I get up there a fair bit but try to avoid the busy periods. I've been in on long weekends and much prefer it when it's quieter. Try the trek notes for a trip that takes you in there via
Mansfield and out via Harrietville. (my notes)
Luxoluk & I will be there this weekend. Can't say we'll leave you any firewood or fish though, and as the beer would get warm if we left it for you it'd probably be best if we drank that too.
Enjoy it. It's a great spot. You won't only go once...
