G'day
Go here and have a look at Johnny Appleseed GPS-Ram Mounts. You may find them elseware but this is a good place to start.

no photo but
mine is as follows
dash mat-cut 2 slots to fit cradle through dash mat and mount remote head to cradle(supplied when bought)-velcro cradle to actual dash.-wires run under dash mat down pillar under dash and unit sits behind carpet on the tunnel.
good point is can see at glance as driving -bad point is can view when parked by light fingered people-i put cap over when parked at some
places.
also have to buy $10-20 speaker which can either mount under dash or on
seat
cheers

Nudie,
About to try out a Car Mount system from Versa True in the States.
Quite expensive but I couldn't source anything similar in Oz.
I am mounting a 7 inch touchscreen above the centre console for mapping purposes.
Just received the components yesterday, delivered in under a week from the order.
