I can get a steel Toyota Bullbar fitted a lot cheaper than the ARB equivalent. It is for the latest 100Series GXL TD.
I am wondering what practical difference is there to justify the extra spend?
Is the build/ looks better?
Thanks in advance

I did this same thing a couple of weeks ago. I had a toyota "cruiser alloy bar" (now for sale) and bought the steel winch compatible bar from toyota. $799 without fitting kit.
I was told it was made for Toyota at the arb factory anyway, but cant confirm that and dont care. It is strong and
well made and will take a winch if I want in the future.
cheers

ARB say they make the steel Toyota bars. Toyota provides specifications and templates.
The ARB steel bar is $1500 fitted or $1895 fitted, including $200 for colour coded. I am strating to think that ARB must bump up prices to cover all of their advertising.
Thanks for mentioning the price. First dealer quote was $1299 fitted for the IFS steel bar (I have GXL TD, 9/2005 make). The fitting kit was $300.

If you are in
Sydney you may want to get a quote from Pennant Hills Toyota....
I pulled my old one off and put the new one on myself.
cheers

How much do you expect to get for the alloy bar? I wonder how you will go selling it, as I am considering the same thing with my nissan alloy bar.

On ebay they seem to go for $100-250.
Mine is 1 year old in VG condition so hopefully around $200-250
we'll see...

Thanks John, I thought they may go for more than that. Looks like I'm keeping the alloy for now.

Guys,
I am not sure about the Toyota bar but on the Nissan the story, as told by the Nissan dealer, was that the steel bar was made by ARB and would accept a winch.
I am still not sure that the bar was made by ARB but it was very limited as to what winch it would accept.
It may be worth checking that the bar on offer will accept the winch you want to use.

Hi
The Toyota one is made by ARB (said to me by ARB) to Toyota's specs and template.
I guess aftermarket suppliers have more costs adapting a design to suit and then there are advertising costs.
That is a good tip about the winch. I will have to cross that bridge later when I can afford one and when I will probably have to put in heavier springs etc.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi guys
the patrol's steel bull bar is most definitely made by "arb" to nissan's specifications.
The supposed only winch that is compatable with the bar is the warn XD 9000 (hope code number's correct), but other
winches will fit perfectly brawn, premier, ox, t-max.
So I can can only assume that the same applies to yota bar.
Just ring around the dealers & you'll be surprised!

I have a toyota commercial hi mount winch bar on my truck . Some differences i can see are the eyes under the bar are not reinforced like the arb bar . I think arb bars have hi lift jack points incorperated .

I assume the Toyota ones are still made by ARB. If you get them side by side you will see the difference. The Arb Tends to be a Deluxe bar with neater welds etc and some have rubber overriders and usually the bar work on the wings goes down through the bumper section and is a lot stronger. The Toyota one tends to be what6 I would call a commercial fleet grade bar.

Hi.
I haven't had the opportunity to comparevthem side by side and welding is not my game but I am inclined to agree that the ARB bar is stronger in design.
What I am thinking is that there is probably enough strength in the Toyota bar for the purpose and any additional strength would buckle the chassis even more in a hit big enough to show the difference between the bars.
I am also hoping that the Toyota bar is somewhat lighter.
However I have little idea about bars and would appreciate others opinions.
