Road from Borroloola to Roper Bar is OK - pretty corrugated for the first half, (at least it was in September), but the graders were about 150k east of Borroloola, heading east, so that may have changed - lots of good campsites in the Nathan River section, and at many of the rivers.

You'll need permits once you cross Roper River at Roper Bar - take a fair while to get, I've heard, from friends who tried recently and gave up because of the time involved.

cheers

To describe the road to Roper Bar as "OK" isn't exactly accurate. IT IS CRAP!!!!

We attempted Roper Bar to Booraloola October last year. Appartently the graders had been through. It seems all they must have done was to take the top off the corrugations.

One of the worst corrugated roads I ever travelled. Top speed at one stage was 30kph and shaking the aboslute SH!@ out of the vehicle. After 10 km of bone bleep tering ride we returned to the Stuart Hwy and travelled to Booraloola via the Carpenteria Hwy.

Another vehicle did his first tyre within 10 km of the trip. We caught up with them days later in Booraloola. They ended up doing 4 tyres!

Best of luck

PS. For info on permits, etc. you need to contact the Northern Land Council in Darwin.

Drove from Borroloola to Rope Bar in July this year and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the road. Like all roads care needs to be taken but in most places it was a 100 k/h road. This road is a breeze compared to the Mitchell Plateau road in the Kimberley.

Also done Roper to Borro in June this year and it was breeze, just a few wash ways to watch for. Borro to Hells was even smoother as it had just been graded but that did cause the problem of the grader lifting up a large bolt which liked one of my tyres.

Have fun and Enjoy
