Plans are in the making for a trip through the centre next year and was wondering if anyone has travelled the road from North Bourke to Milparinka, If so how did you find it and any things good to see? Our plans are to cross the Simpson, Uluru back home down Oodnadatta track & through broken Hill then back to Sydney, so trying not to bactrack on the way home.
Cheers

The road from Bourke to Milparinka should present no problems to any 4wd. Most of the time it can be easily travelled in a Commodore. If it gets wet it is another story, particularly west of Wanaaring.

We did Bourke to Fort Grey in the day and had some problems in the mud. Should have been in Fort Grey soon after lunch but the road was very wet and slow. Rains in southern Queensland had flooded Thargominda and the Bulloo Overflow which crosses this area.

Things to see. Do the bus tour of Bourke, organised through the Tourist Info there. Also if you have time check out Mt Oxley about 90k east for some fantastic views. Aboriginal rock art at Gundabooka is apparently pretty good too. Also well worth a look is the "Big Shed" at Reola station which is about 20km south of Wanaaring.

I could go on but how much time do you have in that part of the world? Also heaps to see in Broken Hill when you get here. Allow as much time as you can. Most people who visit are suprised by how much there is to see.

The road from Bourke to Tibooburra (Milparincka) is a great road. We travelled this road just last month. It was a little soft in a couple of places but saying that, we did pass a falcon travelling in the opposite direction... The road seemed to get a little rougher toward the Tibooburra end but it was nothing to be concerned about. There is great wildlife to see on this road, especially the birds. Enjoy. Highly recommend camping at May's Bend, just north of Bourke.
