A comedy of errors is still un-folding for us. We have been looking for a boat for 2 years now off and on and finally found one in Sydney 2 months ago. a Mustang 2800 Sport Cruiser, almost new. We signed up for the boat and had some work done on it while it was in Sydney.

The work took quite a while to be done and finally the boat was delivered to Bribie Is, QLD yesterday. I went to the marina, saw the boat in the distance already moored, signed off the truckie and crane driver so they went on their merry way, went to the boat and guess what, they had bought the wrong boat from Sydney. It was a old clapped out customer boat that was in for a service and our almost new boat is still in Sydney.

I cannot mention the boat broker in case it all turns to custard but they are one of the biggest brokers in Australia.

Our next problem is that they will take a while to get our boat here and we are leaving for overseas next week for 4 months - they are worried now.

Anyone who know who owns a Mustang 2800 probably late 1990's model reg ACY599N in scruffy condition from the Mosman area in Sydney, their boat is now on our berth at Bribie Is until it is returned to Sydney. He also has 100 litres of our petrol in it that was put in the boat in Sydney.

As a boat broker myself, I am amazed!
I have heard of the right boat going to the wrong marina, but never the wrong boat going to the right marina.
Did the broker undertake to arrange the vessel to be presented for transport?
If he did, then I would imagine that all extra transport costs & compensation (100L fuel), should be borne by them.

The broker or someone WILL be paying for all extrra transport costs and fuel but their biggest problem is getting our boat to us before we go away for 4 months. They have assured us that we will not have to pay any more than we have already paid as the deal for us included our boat delivered to our marina - their stuffup, they pay.

We should of had the boat 6 weeks ago but all the delays with waiting from repairs and then for transport have made us run out of time as we cannot change our travel plans.

Why not get them to store your vessel at their cost & responsibility, & to have it arrive at your marina on your return?

It is an idea we have already thought about and will discuss with the broker on Monday. Will be an advatage if they can do it out of the water. We have also paid the insurance and marina berth but maybe able to get refund on the insurance and sub-let the marina for a few months.

First great day we have had here for a week or so here on Bribie Is and would have been perfect for a weekend away on the boat - instead she who must be obeyed has me looking at houses with pontoons.

Cheaper to suspend your insurance policy, but be very careful that the broker's policy will cover your vessel, you will need confirmation from his insurer. It might be safer to leave your cover in place, but make sure that you notify your insurer of any changed circumstances from your original proposal.
Most marinas will suspend berthing arrangements, if you explain the circumstances, especially over a holiday period like Xmas.
Where is the vessel? I may know someone nearby that may be able to check that it is stored safely, & not just left on a swing mooring.

Thnaks for the offer and I will let you know next week after I have gone over all the possibilites with the broker. We may even leave it in Sydney and sell it because we paid a very good price for it, did some work on it so it is like new and could make a mint on it. However the idea of buying the boat was to use it ourselves.

Ok, but remember, if I can do anything to help ......... I would hate boat brokers to be vilified here like car dealers are.
BTW, what state are you in?

We are in QLD. I have no problems in general with boat brokers and this broker has worked hard for us. It is an un-fortunate slip-up that should not have happened but still does not warrent brokers to be classed in with car dealers.

Had a call from our boat broker this afternoon, our boat is on a truck (today, Sunday, how did they do it, or how much did it cost them) and is due for unloading at lunchtime tomorrow.

Boat arrived today - all is well. Had a great afternoon on the water - now I have to learn how to get it into the Marina, never had a marina before, just trailer boats (still have 12 and 16 ft trailer boats)

The 16ft is in NZ and we will be in it next week catching real fish. 12 ft is for when we travel in the pop-top Troopy and the new 28ft is the gin palace according to She who must be obeyed - but we will be fishing as well.
