Now if you were to believe in things happening in cycles then we must be due for another shocker year soon. 2000 was a shocker with 75 cars and 2002 was the best with 14. The numbers are creeping up again so be carefull next time you go, the odds are against you.

Also, if happen to drive a Toyo - think twice because you are most likely to be the next casualty.

Kind regards

Funny thing is that the white Rodeo twin cab reputedly belonged to the Rainbow Beach servo owner. The picture must be 5 years old. I came along a couple of days later and it was perched on the rocks. I was looking for the driver but noone knew. It had 80Ks on the clock after picking up new in Brissy.
One of those SWB series Landies belonged to a motor writer on one of the magazines 4WD Monthly? . He wrote a story about it.
I turned around as the gutter was too deep, drove back to Freshwater track, and dropped my Range Rover's rear axle ball joint at the start of the track. There but by the grace of God.

Know what you mean Phillip. Even the ones that should know still get trapped. Was there one year when there was little or no beach to speak of and a lot of timber had collapsed on the beach at the DI end so it was tricky at both ends and I watched people drive through some fairly deep water at DI heading towards Rainbow Beach - you'd want to be sure that there was no problem at that end hey.

Kind regards

When Phillip A said the vehicle had 80K on the clock after picking up new in Brissy? Does he mean 80,000km or 80km? So either its old, or it was flown in?

No problem so long as you are there at the right tide and can see sand all around the rocks where you want to go. If there is water, you can become another statistic at the pub.

Rocks tend to hid themselves under the water waiting to trap a foolish 4WD driver and get them hung up not to mention holes and gutters that are deeper than they look. There is also the surf that catches the unwary.

My policy is there must be another way if I have to drive through sea water - if there is no other way, wait for low tide, never had to take the 3rd alterative yet.

I have driven around these rocks a few times at low tide with no problems at all. All a matter of timing as to when you want to be on the beach and when you want to be off it.

The golden rule is never travel along the beach 2 hours before high tide .

Too Right!!!

Anytime after high tide is fine. Anything less than two hours before high tide may not leave you with enough time for a recovery - and no recovery, no vehicle!!

I've alwasy worked with 2 hours either side of low and never had a problem there. In cyclonic conditions, or with high winds and big seas, its not a good idea to try it at all.

The day we did it it was at 9:30am, and high tide was just after 12pm. The guys on the barge at Inskip said it would be ok.

The bigger waves were just lapping the rocks in one spot only, I waited until they ran back, and drove through. Looking back, I was probably lucky, and I definately wouldn't have wanted to be any later in the day.

Its a great drive back along the beach to Noosa though, much better that taking the main road.

I was told 80Km by I recall the owner of the newsagency, so maybe they bought it at Strathpine,or
Deception bay or whereever those dealers are.
I once bought a second hand Jackeroo at the Holden dealer at Strathpine and when I went to rego it in NSW, found it was encumbered!!!!! I then found out the Government register of encumbrances protects everyone but the poor victim!
Took weeks to clear up.
Regard s Philip A
