Hi All,
Got a windscreen cracked on a Simpson Trip about 6 months ago.
Now the crack gone all the way from the top to the bottom of the windscreen
on the passenger side. Only outer window part is cracked the inside part
is still intact. I know that eventually I will have to change it but wondering if
is it going to last another year as it is...
Should I change it now or should I want till internal window gets cracked as
well?
Anyone know of the cheap Windscreen replacement place?

Claim it on your insurance.... It costs nothing...
And if it costs something then change insurance companies so it costs nothing..

cheap i pay about that much for my 94 80 insutred for 15 grand with RAC. Although if there vehicle insurance is the same as their home and contents then any extra is worth it for the service less than zero complaints for prompt ultra care with claims

I think you'll find that CGU don't allow a 2" lift - at least when I was insured with Smartcover, they told me their underwriters (CGU) had stipulated that 2" was not coverable..

What about legal issues? I'm suprised you haven't been pulled over and had the vehicle defected and fined for it. as a cracked windscreen makes it unroadworthy. Is a fine worth the wait?

Gotta say I've never heard of anyone actually getting fined... Was asked politely to get
mine fixed at my earliest convenience, replaced it the next day and was following a cement mixer... BANG, another crack... 4years later I replaced it when I sold the car.

Years ago I had a cracked windscreen bleep ter while driving. Heck of a scare. I'll never drive with a major crack in a screen again.

If it's only the outside and on the passenger side than I personally wouldn't worry. They are pretty hardy animals. If you do want to make it stronger you could try a strip of clear contact to the outside. Will make a big difference but looks terrible.
When you drive gravel and single lane roads alot you can't really afford to replace the windscreen every time you get a crack.
My thoughts.

Vicroads! No doubt staffed by those who make most decisions around the coffee dispencer that you vehicle owners paid for..Any real world decisions, not influenced by caffine and lack of "blue sky" knowledge will most likely, have to come from elsewhere..The "legal" word,to them,is akin to "revenue raiser"..Sorry Lucy, but those sort of departments, that actually work for us (although they have long ago forgotten that) do not work on the pioneering spirit as in"Nothing ventured.Nothing gained"..Aint' life great?..Have fun..RockyOne!MPG:6!

Aw! c'mon.
Thats a real pessimist, depressive attitude and outlook on the 'poor old VICROADS people'.
Remember - 'they are from the Government and are here to help you/us'.
I still believe the enquiring
Forum member will be given a most 'black & white' definitive answer to his dilemma if he seeks a second opinion from VICROADS.
Thats what they do best.
Oh! mate. I can just visualise it now. ( ROFLMAO)

Stan,
IMHO the screen will eventually delaminate and you will be in deep bleep !
Check your local Crash Repairer, or an O'Brien Glass outlet.
My understanding is that most aftermarket Windscreen replacements are about $120 and they are as good as the OEM glass. (Probably the same without the Manufacturer's markup)

I would replace it because it's dangerous.
You only get one chance and I wouldn't like to take that chance on something I could deal with!
Your money or your life! I never understand why people are willing to take a risk on something they can fix. If you have a vehicle then you should expect that you will have maintenance expenses. Don't grudge them - just FIX them!
