Hi all. Having read about bugs in diesel. I think i have some? Changed filter full of waxy, slimy lump - lots of it. Car lacks power particularly at low revs. What is an easy and cheap way of cleaning the system out. Have started putting Chemtech additive in
tank again. Am going on holidays in 3 days time,
Sydney to Qld to WA and return.

drain the
tank and re fill with clean fuel mixed with a product called "fuel set" seen it used in coalmine diesels where algae problems are common sorry cant tell you where to get it maybe search the net
ps take a carton of filters with you cause it'll keep breaking down and clogging filters for a while even after it's treated

Rob NSW! Hi! I reckon we all need a modern day Jack Absolom..He would have the answer of this..One of his trix was to put a cup of metho in the
tank (only in the
tank:-) every fill..Now,back to your sit...My un-educated suggestion is to pursue your current course of action of adding the Chemtech fuel de-bug additive (like you should have,as you now realise,used it all the time (bugs don't get annual leave like many of us do.They are "on duty 365/24/7..Leap years 366/24/7)..Before the trip,drain most of the fuel into a container which allows you to view the contents (clear or open).Put the fuel
tank bung back in and reverse one of the rear
wheels over a brick several times to stir up the contents of the almost empty
tank.Add at least a cup of metho to the
tank..Rock the rig a little (not like the vandals) Out with the bung and drain out the muck.Sometimes,blowing air into the fuel container through your "thieving tube" (jiggler.Not Lipton™) will speed things up..If a long term smoker! Forget it! The minimal increase in internal pressure in the vessel will not be worth the trouble.(Kind of reminds us of the bloke who tried to blow up the bus,but all that happened was,he got burned lips:-)..Anyway! You are half way there in that you now realise that bugs,like the Phantom,do exist..Maybe I should email all this to me,as it appears I should follow the same procedure.Now,back to the only true comic."O ghost who walks"..It's a jungle out there!..Have fun..RockyOne!MPG:6!

Hi DieselUp..You got the goods! Thanks for that great info..Found the site you listed..As this manafacturer is allied with a major farming group,who know all about diesel bugs,because of their huge,on farm storage situations,their products must be
well recieved by that knowledgeable agricultural community.. www.liquideng.com.au/products.html I suggest that,after fixing the diesel bug side of things,checking and changing quality filters where deemed neccessary,add a bottle of Wynns™ injection cleaner or a product from Liquid Engineering ( I have'nt checked all their products yet) if they have one to get back to a clean diesel and efficent injectors..Trouble is,we don't notice the powering down,as it happens over a longer time frame..Rather like the dry-cleaners advert 30 plus years ago (a little bird told me) which stated "You don't notice your curtains getting a little grubbier every day,but your visitors do"..Sorry'bout the thousand words..Have fun..RockyOne

Don't know if that product works or not with regard to getting rid of bugs but, the following is from their web site;
"Through the engine's combustion process
water also causes gums, resins and other contaminates to separate and foul fuel systems".
Would some one like to tell me how a vehicles combustion system manages to foul that vehicles fuel system? Sounds like a load of bollocks!
If they are refering to injectors then they should say so but I still reckon it's bollocks.

hi rob check the small filter in the
tank to if that cloggs up it will slow you down

Diesel engines are designed to run on 1 thing , pure diesel .

Yes, but can you always get pure diesel? There are plenty of people who complain about diesel quality. You can also be just plain unlucky, and pick up a fill of contaminated diesel + bugs. Happens more frequently with
boaties.

Early this year I had a
young lad in Mt Magnet with an old GQ Patrol with an SD33 in it having the same probs. He was changing filters every half hour to keep it running.
He showed me some of the gunk - he thought it was plastic. I told him it algae that lives on the fuel
water interface in yer
tank.
He asked fer a solution. I told him to drop the
tank out, wash it all out, dry it by blowing air through it, put it all back. Dismantle to fuel pipes as far as possible, blow 'em all out and then leave 'em to dry out or blow dry 'em. Reassemble whole lot.
Two days later he was running around and hadn't changed a filter since he cleaned it.
Sometime it's not an easy fix.

you must use a product which has a product which has a boicidein its aditive is is a common problem with deisel fuel and you shold use it at last every 3 months or evan more often
