Experience is something you gain if you survive your errors :))
The NT is all that and more. Corros, dirt,
rock, not too many hills. Bulldust, washaways etc etc. Traffic and the weather will determine track conditions. You will be ok if you take your time. Doing 80 instead of 120 greatly reduces the chances of a mistake being fatal. Remember to ask "do I really need to go there ?" instead of the hairy chested approach.
Basically a bit of common sense coupled with lots of caution will ensure that you have a great trip.

Went to NT August through to November with an Xtrail and 16 Ft van.
left van at sites.
went from
mataranka to
Roper Bar and on to
Boulia with standard road tyres.Had to take it Very Slow As road very corragated; camped out over night .
Also did a lot of tracks around the Alice including
palm valley.
Most of the tracks in the
Litchfield National Park Area.
No Problems At all . LUcky Maybe
But my Partner and myself enjoyed ourselves immensley.
main thing we made sure we had plenty of; was WATER.
Both in Our late 50,s
