G-Day all, I'm considering putting BFG's size 254/70/ R16 on a DX 80 series. I would love to put on 265's but I'm concerned they would be too wide without flares. Does anyone have the 245's on their DX and how do you find them?

Thanks

Hope this rain clears up (Sydney) for Aussie Day!

Damien, you'll find the 245's, a wee bit too small in overall diameter. They work out at around 29inch in the old money. About the size you'd find on a Hi-lux. I would suggest the 235/75x16 which you can still run on a 7 inch rim (or a split rim) without needing flares.

What about 235/85/16, there standard fitment to a Defender, which have 7" rims, also 255/75/16 and 245/75/16 will go on 7" rims.

These are all suitible for a 7" rim, the 235/85 being the biggest and basicly the same as the old 750/16 fitted to split rims

Damien

I ran 26575R16 on my dx 93 80 series and they where fine, I picked up a set of the steel 16 x 7 prado rims. Perfect match the rim fitted ferfectly, tyres where flush with the guards but didn't protrude out at all. The 255/70/R16 in my opinion are a little small.

I had 235/85 16's on my Mav and found them to be excellent, bit wider, bit higher and no flares required. I got BFG Radial Trac Edge's and did 50000 on them and they stilll had better than 50% of original tread depth. Most satisfying, I actually took them off when I sold the Mav and sold them seperately.
