I hope to drive from Bris to Cairns in May-June this year. Can anyone suggest a route inland at a 3 -4 star 4wd drive taking in Longreach etc. I wll have about two weeks to do it. Also if possible include sights and interesting things to see. I will more than likely be traveling alone.
Hope to get some good advice from you all. I live in Cairns and it will be my first trip outback in Qld. I have done a few trips up in FNQ, within a few hundred k's of here.
As you can tell I am a new comer to 4WDing but I have lived in Cairns for over 40 years and never had the opportunity or vehical to do any good trips.
regards, Damien.

Damien,

Bris-Toowoomba-Roma (The Big Rig)-Charleville (Cosmos centre)-Quilpie-Windorah-Jundah-Stonehenge-Lark Quarry-Winton (heaps to see there)-Longreach (Hall of Fame, QANTAS museum etc)-Muttaburra-Hughenden (Dinosaur exhibition)-Porcupine Gorge-The Lynd Junction-Einasleigh-Mt Surprise (Undara Lava Tubes)-Mount Garnet-Atherton-Mareeba-Cairns.
Heaps of good dirt and plenty to occupy two weeks.

If you go to www.outbackholidays.info or call 13 88 33, you can order a free "Queensland's Outback Travellers Guide".

For what its worth.
Regards

Damien, the above is an excellent rout, however if you want a little more off-road, and especially if you are not travelling alone, you might consider going Longreach to Lark Quarry via Mayneside and Opalton as per the ExplorOz.com/TrekNotes/OutbackQLD/Winton_to_Innamincka.asp" target="EOF" class="lbg">Winton - Innamincka Trek on this site.

There are numerous other variations but the bove is an excellent starting point. Don;t miss Lark Quarry or Stockmans Hall of Fame at Longreach.

If you are in Townsville come say hi
