Hi all, happy new year have not been on the site for a while been flat out over christmas.
Anyways was wondering if any body could recommend a good tag a long 4x4 operator for short trips out of
Sydney?
Or a good safe place to take the family camping 4x4, no parks please.
And also is there any companies out there who hire out camping trailers, the box trailer type that opens up into a tent?
All help will be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Babs.

Some advice on tag along operators. Check how many vehicles will be on the tour. If its more than 6 or 7 then its a problem. Too many vehicles slow the tour down and too many people around the campfire at night makes it crowded to a point where you could be sitting 2 deep. I did one with a
well known operator and there were 12 cars in the group. Spoilt the tour.

Hi there babs, do a google search just type in 4wd
tag along tours (australia only) and it will bring up a fair few that do weeks away, weekends, and day trips. Here's a few to help you out,
http://www.getabout.com.au/default.asp http://duncansoffroad.net.au/modules/tours0/index.php?id=21 http://www.mistymtns4wdtours.com.au/ http://www.aussieoffroad.com.au/home.htm
I really like the misty mtns one, they are a great couple really lovely Ken & Olga and provide for all different things, different vehicles etc, cant comment on the other ones waiting for another few weeks and will be going out with getabout for a day. Have heard they have a good reputation as
well so I will find out. Will give you my email address and might go out with the same group one day if you live in
Sydney. I live in the Penrith (Glenmore Park ) area, west of
sydney. Hope these sites are what your looking for. Regards Steve M

babs,
Try Great Divide Tours. One of the members here is a tour leader. They are based in
Sydney.
I have travelled with Duncans Offroad and enjoyed it immensely. They are Qld based though.

Hi Babs,
You could pay someone to guide you thru the bush...or you could join a club in
Sydney and Tour with them, you know the people your travelling with, friendship they build over time..generally you are shown how to use your truck properly..the tracks are interesting and varied..a lot of the time we bump into tours around
Sydney have a quick chat and keep going...you can be as active as you like in a properly run small club...generally there's 12 trips min..per year to chose from, having an idea of what lays ahead trip wise gives you time to budget for your trip...once you become a member you are covered by public liability whilst on trips with your club..so if the worst happen out there, you bowl over someone's prize bull your covered, there's BBQ's social nights..etc etc..rowdyness is not tolerated..nor is rude behavior, most of all if something goes wrong with your truck out bush you wont be left there to rot..( I'm not sugesting that tours leave you stranded) I'm just saying you'll be with friends who have a vested interest in looking after you because it may be them who's next!.Its definately the cheapest way to tour with peace of mind.

Give John/Julie a call at Getabout 4WD (at Prospect I think). Even their day trips are an adventure...and they throw a bit of training if if needed.

Another vote for Getabout. We did their basic 4wd course in August last year, and went back a fortnight ago for the bush mechanics (even taught DH a few things, and he is a mechanic), and then the advanced 4wding the next day.
John and Julie are fantastic, as are all their employees. You can't go wrong. We are planning to go on quite a few of their outings, and friends have done a few of their extended trips, and have never had one complaint!
