Its not a new engine, its the same TD42 with the same Turbo, and a new Intercooler.. It will be in the same place as the 3.0 intercooler above the engine with the bonnet scoop.

Mid Feb was the last date We were told.

Early to mid february is the word I'm getting from the QLD Sales Manager. The photos I've seen say 'Direct Injection' on the side and they have the bonnet scoop for the new intercooler. I get the impression that the basic engine is the same but with some top end modifications. Pricing will probably be slightly higher than the old 4.2 TD. 4x4 Magazine will do a 'first drive' write-up in their next (March) issue.

The 4x4 Australia Magazine was meant to come out today but my Newsagent did not receive it. Has anyone got it yet that can confirm the details for the new 4.2 TD with intercooler ??

HI Robo, you are correct, the mag did not get to the stands today, my guess is that they have held it off till the release of the new patrol on either tomorrow or friday im told by my local Nissan dealer. The updated model has all new interior that goes all through the range of patrols and the upgraded motor (diesel) of course. Possibly Nissan did not want the details to get out b4 the release. Michael, makes sence, Nissan must have held them back from the release. New interior sounds good, dying to find out the specs of the 4.2..

Hi Robo.
My Gu is nearing 4 yo, done 245000 ks no major problems,, i'm happy with motor and would rather get another 4.2 than the 3 litre.I'm hoping for just the intercooler without the direct injection. The current 4,2 doesn't have a computer and thats the way i like it. Direct injection will bring with it the dreaded computer, the 3 litre has its computer under the seat, handy if you happen to go through water any deeper than 5oomm.. Cheers Michael

Michael - Spoke with Garry Rogers Nissan (Vic) today to try and get more info. He told me the interior change is only different colour fabrics and plastics not a redesign and this will be across the whole range. He also told me there is no direct injection just a simple intercooler (this info has been consistent from my talks with Nissan) and a price rise of around $1000. - still 2 weeks to release though !! damn it..

Hi Robo, i had my Patrol in for service on monday at Purnell Nissan @ Liverpool , outside of Sydney, they told me definately by Friday, so i concluded thats y the Mag was late, who knows.. Any way all will be revealed probaby 2moro with the 4x4 magazine. I'm happy about the lack of direct injection, the worst thing they could do is put the same pump as the 3.0D patrol on. They are failing with shonky fuel as there is no other lubrication ather than the diesel fuel itself. Nissan is not even replacing them under warranty as they say that fuel quality is beyond their control. $6000 for a new fuel pump. I'll keep with the old mechanical job that is tried and proven.. Regards Michael.

Lets be honest, I dont think any dealers "know"....

My local dealer Peninnsular Nissan, told me Direct Inj thats why its been held back on their release, as they couldnt get emissions correct.

Intercooler is in same place as the 3.0, over motor, and Everything else is the same, just new colours....

Dont be shocked if its just a TD42T with Intercooler, and Non Direct Inj... Direct Inj would be the next MAJOR upgrade!!!!!

will keep you posted on this thread if I find out any more.

I too am concerned about the 3.0td. heard about quite a few problems. There was a good tread running over at overlander.com.au about it but the server crashed and all the info was lost !.. from what I saw most of the guys did not experience any problems so in may be more rumor based than fact.. there are always people who go out of their way to make up stories to justify their own decisions. Every make will have a problem or two and a lemon here and there.
