Met a chap the other day who uses Amsoil. Did a search and read what Roachie had to say, etc.
Where in the Melbourne area can I see and maybe purchase Amsoil and filters etc?
Can't find any site with list of dealers.

In my experience, the oil is good (but expensive - use any synthetic oil), the airfilters are messy but very good (once again expensive - use Unifilter, Finer Filter, etc which are very similar) and one of their oil filters stuffed a Commodore motor of mine as they were too restrictive and starved the engine of oil.

From memory, they do not recommend their oil filters on race engines - good job I did not use the filter on my race car that I had at the time.

These are my own experiences from approx 15 years ago and may not be relavent today with new products and prices that Amsoil may have.

What do I use today, standard manufacturers filters and the oil that the dealers put in at services.

Trouble is they won't export to anywhere other than Canada.......

Yes, I am using Amsoil and their by-pass filtration system. The big by-pass filter certainly is very restrictive, but that's why they call it a "by-pass".......not all the oil flow is directed through it, only about 10% of the flow at any given time....the rest goes through the normal filter system.

The big advantage is the extremely lengthened periods between oil changes....I'm up to almost 25,000klm since I last changed my oil, so the system has paid for itself already!!! And just in case you think I'm mad for "risking" my motor, I've been getting the oil anaylysed every 5000klm by Castrol's laboratory in Sydney and they keep telling me the oil is quite okay and within specs in all aspects.

As for where you can get hold of it; sorry I can't help you. The bloke I get mine from is located between Stansburu and Yorketown, at the southern end of Yorke Peninsula, about 200klm from where I live.

Cheers

Roachie
