Ultima Swags are brilliant , but they are halway between a tent and a swag . Mesh sides and top with a canvas cover for rain . Very good in hot climates and for keeping out the bugs , but not cheap .
I have had one for 12 years and bought another one last year for my wife . The guy that makes them is ex army and very proud of his quality

Cheers ,

If you plan on heading to Central Australia, what ever type you decide on, get one with a PVC botton on it not canvas.
Bindi's dont stick to PVC and it also stops the damp rising if you camp in creek beds.

Well if it rains miles away up the creek ie 2 days back or more and you settle in for the night and while your asleep the bloody big flood comes down and washes all away , ?????

Depends on the creek doesnt it!
I your silly enough to go and camp in the Todd, Finke or something like that without haveing any idea about weather or local knowledge, being washed away probably isnt such a bad thing.

We've done swags a lot lately and your's is a very general question.

Have you considered a search of the forum and it's archives?

Very happy with my Sar Major king size single. Heavy duty canvas, hoops, thick comfy mattress and everything with pvc base. Excellent for hot nights with it open, except for mesh, looking at stars, but dew can build up on inside if overly cold or wet. less than 5 minutes to set up. $350

Second that motion, except for one thing...

The screen, whilst it is heavy duty, and bomb proof, is a little coarse, and those teeny weeny ants get in, whereas in Tracy's Mitchell swag, they cant.

The ants are no big deal, just shake 'em out before bed.

Darling Downs Tarpaulins in Toowoomba do a good simple swag. About $300 I think. I got a pink one made for the mrs birthday. I wanted to get her a king size swag that would fit in the back of the Patrol so they made it to my measurements as the single was too narrow and their king was too wide. Very good value for money - but I would make sure the matress is not too hard - they put a very stiff one in the one I bought. I spent 18mnths in Western Qld and would never buy a swag with zips and mozzie nets if you are travelling on dusty roads alot. The zips just don't last, nor do the mozzie nets. I have a net that I hang from a tree if I need but if there are bighties around i'll spend half and hr setting the tent up.

There would be a half dozen or more of the better brand names that are suitable. Down Under swags are another top swag.

The most important decision you need to make is whether you want a "basic" swag, or the hoop type and go from there.

The hoop type swag will give you the most flexibility but is at the higher end of the price range. These will allow you to sleep out in the open, even if it rains, with your clothes next to you inside the swag.

Also consider buying an "oversize" swag if you are choosing a single. My swag has a XL suffix for extra large. Basically, it gives you a little more width which you will soon appreciate with "use in the field".

Expect to pay $350-$450 for a good quality swag in hoop style, XL.

Sorry stuffed up the link
Try this bushwakka swags
Ebay also has some hoop type swags around the 200 buck mark. I am not sure if they are a vinyl floor or canvas.
