Hi all,

I've never been on one of these gatherings but I have two questions:
1) Do you have to be a member to attend?
2) I often read the reports of the day and people are often quite thankful of the organisation that goes into them which leads me to believe that there's more to it than just turning up for a BBQ or a camp and winging it? What sort of activities are usually planned for these days?

Cheers
Scoey!

Typical activities(assuming you have a lady friend for transport) consist of the following:

Heavy lifting with your right hand(unless you're a south paw)

Stroking ego's with your left hand

Says me who did neither at either of the 2 meets I've attended...

I guess that's my dream meet...

Actually, I've heard that stroking ones ego with the left hand is good - feels like someone else is doing it! Whoops did I just say that? ;-)

Scoey,
Pretty sure you don't have to be a member. There is a little bit of forward planning involved, like a recon of the area, just to see what facilities are there. Everyone appreciates the effort put in by the organiser.
We drove from Maryborough to Jacobs Well(on the other side of brisvegas) to attend one of these gatherings. We all met up at the park near the caravan park and just sat around talking to different people, had a bbq. Had a great time meeting a few of the peolpe on here and putting faces to the names. Hopefully the next one will be a weekend trip/camping etc (possibly with a bit of 4wding thrown in, so we can get our wheels dirty)

I have wondered about the same thing Scoey. I am also in QLD so maybe we can have a huge bash out in the bush or over at Straddie or something?

Sounds like a plan Troll! Maybe Cruiser Park also? I see you're familiar with it! ;-) I got a pretty tight schedule for the next 3 months or so but I was gonna try and join and organise one for maybe August/Sept. I reckon it'd be tops to get out with some like minded folk and put some faces to the screen names! :-D

This is secret member stuff Scoey. Members cannot divulge information pertaining to a particular gathering until the secterary has destroyed all official documents relating to the said gathering after which it is just hearsay.

Preparation doesn't always work in your favour you know.

We had an ExplorOz gathering a while back in Adelaide and the venue was a place we had been before. Not to do any 4WD stuff, but just to meet, have a drink and chew the fat for a few hours.

Well this time the local Council outguessed us and had locked the access track over a small bridge to the recreational area.

Couldn't get the bloody BBQ, (mounted on a trailer) anywhere near the action, so the action had to move to the BBQ for a while. BUGGA!

Anyway Scoey, you certainly don't need to be a Member to attend these sort of functions, or even be a registered visitor. The whole idea of the gatherings is to meet people you perhaps communicate with on ExplorOz from time to time, but also others who are new to everyone, but may have a similar interest, or outlook on life. (Yes, distorted though it may be)
