easter trip somewhere out of sydney

Hi folks, it's the family with 4 kids travelling round australia - in sydney with rellies, but thought it might be possible to find some other 4WD folks to join up with for Easter...we were thinking of going to the Watagans, out from Newcastle, as there are some free campsites (trying to keep costs down as ever).

anyone else with families (or not..) want to plan a get together? Or, any suggestions on FREE and preferably WARM camping places to go and hide over the Easter break? - or longer - if anyone wants to make a plan to get together with kids during the school holidays we could work in with that too - I was half thinking of getting up to Trial Bay area for some campsites during the school holidays, but am open to suggestions.

(PS - Kids no longer feral, but still frequently drive us crazy. Kids ages are 10, 8, and twins aged 4. All boys except one twin is a girl.)
