Hi chris

Did not so long ago. Nothing to worry about, but it depends on what you are used to. We took about 7 4wds up there. Hug the left hand side for he easier line.

Thanks for the tip.
I drive a lifted GU, however we are going up there with a Pathfinder as well, and i was just worried if it could do it, as i have heard different reports on the tracks difficulty.
Having not been to Lake cobbler before, is it a good spot to set up camp?

Hi Chris
I doubt you will have any dramas. There were some people camped near the hut last time. It was wet when we went up there, so there was some mud around, but still plenty of dry camping spots.

cheers
Adam

Chris,
A mob from the Nissan CLub went through there about a month ago & they had 5 Pathfinders. All traversed it downhill OK with a bit of guidance & thought they could get back up OK. Just slow & steady.
Good Luck

The staircase is not a very steep track (was used by log trucks at one time) but is getting washed out in 3 places leaving large rocks exposed. Careful wheel placement & direction by an observer will get any 4x4 with low range up without damage. Traction is not an issue.
Lake Cobbler is an excellent camp site with a day shelter & toilet. Problem is everyone else reckons it's great too so get in early in the day if you want a spot. At Easter it will be packed. By following the creek down from the lake you get to Cobbler falls & about 15 minutes further to the south gets you to the top of the Dandongadale falls. Great views & well worth the walk.
Cheers Craig...........

I heard alot about the staircase from many people before finally travelling it myself .It would have to be one of the easiest tracks around and i didnt understand what all the fuss was about. If this is what some of you 4wdrivers call challenging or difficult you need to try butchers country or the grimme tracks then you might change your mind .I reckon i could get my mums magna up the staircase, hope i havnt ruffled to many feathers.

Yes gqpat if you got the old GQ up then that says it all - it's an easy track. I took my Holden ute up fully loaded with camping and fishing gear, but I am surprised that you found it easy in the Patrol.

Hi Andy, why would you be surprised that i found it easy in a Patrol ?? Actually did it in a fully loaded Hilux at the time and was a piece of #### . Although i'm sure in the Patrol it would have been easier although a easy track is easy in any vehicle i reckon .Just didnt know what al the fuss was about as i was looking forward to something a bit more challenging but not to worry will give butchers and grimme another go soon as it was graded back in 2005 due to many accidents just have to wait until it weathers a bit more ...
