Well the time has finally come. Tomorrow morning we head off on our long anticipated four month trip.
In summary, the route is Gold Coast, Cameron's Corner, Innaminka, Birdsville, Mt Isa, Katherine, Broome (via bitumen), Cape Leveque, Middle Lagoon, GRR, Mitchell Plateau, Kalumburu, Darwin, Kakadu, Litchfield, Accross Western Gulf to Lawn Hill, down to Cloncurry, Charters Towers (original home town), then south back to Gold Coast).

The packing and preparation are finished. The fridge is full. I even found room for 16 bottles of good red wine for the occasional mellow evening watching the sunset.

I did the original budget based on average of $1.75 per lt for diesel. Might need to adjust that a bit and find some savings elsewhere. But no matter what price fuel is; we are gooing.

I'm carrying three spare tyres on rims, plus a set of tyre pliers and repair kit. Borrowed a Tirfor hand winch from a friend. I figure if I carry one, I won't need it.

Comms are UHF, GSM, CDMA and sat phone.

Unless I find somewhere to get on line on the way, I'll tell you about it in early September.

Norm,

Have a good trip.

How long will you be away for?

Just on fuel prices, on the Canning Stock Route we are paying $2.50 per litre at Well 23. $450 for the 200lt drum.

David,

Checked the fuel site here but they don't do Mt Dare.

Checked one site ( Not ExplorOz ) and they were giving fuel pricing for 2001 in Brisbane. They don't seem to update there info very often.

Mid August sounds about right for us too Greendog, but all pretty flexible. You can't miss the pretty blue 'Lux. We'll stop in at Kingfisher Camp for a couple of days, then on to Lawn Hill.

Gramps,

With a send off like that i am not going to tell you that I will be off at the end of May.

Just to rub salt into the wounds I will not come back until mid October.

Enjoy the Winter :-)))

Ha! As for you, swanning around the countryside half the year with a troop of travelling companions to entertain you. What a life! And you get paid as well !!!

You can bugger off for a while too! But make sure you bring back plenty of piccies and all the goss about what happened. You know, the stuff that happens on a trip that should stay on the trip, the good stuff :)))))))

Let us know how the camper performs. We'll be north somewhere, no plan. We'll keep an eye out for the ZR.

We've done plenty in the ZR so far Osdyssey, but this is by far the longest and most adventurous. It'll be a bugger having a hot shower at the end of each day!!!
