Gathered masses,
Has anybody modified an ARB rack to suit a roof top tent? I know you can buy the rack to suit the roof tents but seeing I have this one... Which I just picked up very cheap.
I'm just thinking of trimming the top bars off where the tent would sit to allow it to sit down in the rack.
Will I have to strengthen the rack or will it be sufice?
I'm currently running the tent on 3 bars but I need to carry an extra spare up there etc and the 3 bars have made an impression on the tent (needs better support).
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan,
I have a rack for a roof tent, it a base that sits on to 3 cross bars and its attached with u bolts. I don't have a roof tent any more so if you are interested in this one then let me know. I don't know where you are, we are in
Perth now.
It won't cost you a fortune and It'll save you wrecking your ARB rack.

Hi Grumpy,
Thanks for your reply, I'm in

Hi Mate
I did the same thing as you are about to do and it works great, out with the grinder and cut off anything you don't need. I left the rails around the front to strap my cargo bag onto.
Have fun

Hi Dan, Yes I've modified an ARB rack.
I picked up a cheap 2nd hand ARB full length rack - (steel boxy style)
I then chopped the upper rail (and verticals) off on the rear section so there was enough room for the tent. Next I welded the rear section I had cut off back onto the back of front half- which made a smaller basket at the front, and left the rear open for the tent.
This has worked perfectly for my application, cost was minimal and only took about 2 hours including repainting.
Flux.

Cool, thanks guys. I will no doubt look into it more on Sunday when I have some time off!
One more question, Do you know what colour that ARB
grey is? Also where to get it? Just in spray can will do, that way I can touch up and won't be so stressed about items rubbing the pain off.
