Hello campers. Anyone had experience wit the COI Ligthning Tourer Tent. I am considering one with a side pole kit (double bed mattress and sleeping bag so centre pole is out), I gather they are as good as Southern Cross but lots cheaper.

Hi, we have had a COI Lightning Extended Touring tent for around 2 years. It is a good tent - we have never had a problem with it. People will swear by the Southern Cross tents, however for the price difference I reckon the COI product stacks up. We paid around $750 for ours on sale at Kangaroo tent city in Sydney.

The only thing we don't like about it is the folded size, and the weight (especially if packed up wet) re: getting onto the roofrack.

We ended up also buying a 2.4m x 2.4m dome that we take on trips where we are not staying in one place for more than a couple of nights.

Would I buy another COI touring tent - yes, if I was in the market for a canvas tent (made in Australia and New Zealand, so cheap asian copy problems are not a consideration), however, after using both the tourer and dome, I don't think I would buy another canvas tent - too bulky, too heavy.

Cheers
