Just picked up a Wild Country swag, 12 or 14oz canvas(my best guess it's very heavy stuff)approx 2000mm x 1350mm, head and foot hoops, top flap with mesh and head end flap also with mesh... 3 years old, never used(I can confirm this as I know the bloke very
well)... Can't find any info on the net about them, what would you say it was worth...???

A sell price of about $100 would be good going I'd say Blue

Wild Country I think are sold by a certain tent city which is not renowned for quality products, but check comparable products from a local quality manufacturer such as
Southern Cross canvas to get a better idea of its value. Oh and how much does your mate want for it?

Hi Mick, he wants $200, I've taken it to open up, lay about in it and make sure I fit in it but I let him know I was keen... I have it opened out here at work and I've got to say the canvas work is as good if not better than my camper trailer(
Tambo)... This thing is imaculate, apart from a little dust there is not a mark on it. I've been looking for one for a while now for when it's just me and the dog... Anaconda have a range(I can't comment on their quality) of similar units with much lighter canvas at around the $300 for a single. Comparisons I have made tonight include a True Blue of slightly smaller dimensions @ $400, Burke&Wills same dimensions @ $450 and the Jolly Swag "Shiralee" with same dimensions @ RRP $599...
On opening it up I can comfirm 100% that it has never been used... Still has the little white plastic(have to break them to get them off) clips locking the zip tabs together...

Blue,
If this is a top entry my guess is that you have a pretty good buy. Don't be foolled into believing that they are water proof though.
I have a single Shiralee, side entry, but it is pretty good, not water proof though.
Have just bought a double Burke&Wills, checked quite a few other designs out, and am pretty impressed with this one. Plenty of head space (had to conform with the cooks specifications) paid just under $600 which included a bag for it.
Enjoy

Pickle, it's more for when I visit our 20acre block near Avoca... I have the roofed pergola which used to be connected to a caravan, so I'll sleep under that. Seems every time the dog and I head up there with the dome tent, the bloody heavens open up and I end up setting the tent up in the rain...

From what I've read, $200 sounds fair, but it comes down to settling on a figure that suits you both I guess. Personally I have gone for a good quality hike tent (with motorbike) and a centre pole canvas tent(with 4wd). I wouldn't consider anything but the centre pole when travelling in a vehicle. As quick as a swag - quicker than the one pictured - and you can stand and store gear etc.

Mick, I have a small hike tent for my bike also, just a little too squeezy for my liking, although perfect for the trail bike... Time isn't of the essence in my case so a little time to set up is OK by me, just hate setting up the damn dome tent especially when it's raining. As I was saying to Prickle, I have shelter in the place I'm most likely to use it so storing gear isn't an issue, staying warm at night is.

I bought one of those swags from Ray you know who last year. They were on special for $150. Half price. Seemed pretty good value at the time, although I've since had to re-waterproof it.

Got one for my lad at Rays for about that price recently.
Spent a lot of time waterproofing it via soaking - drying - soaking - drying etc. (worth the effort)
Has been a good swag, He has slept out (with me in my super heavy duty
home sewn jobbie) in a few pretty drastic storms and neither of us have got wet.
For the price I reckon it was not a bad buy. Is a 3 hoop model (although half the time we only use the 1 hoop at the head)

WOW that's cheap... Mate sent me a text saying he'd found the original receipt for it, $420 3 years ago... I might go in and have a look before we settle on a price...

I originally had the Wild Country 2 hoop model, now I have the 3 hoop model which is much better IMHO. Have had it all the high country, plenty of rain, & also across the Simpson etc. I have found it very comfortable (
Dunlop 50mm mattress)& it has never leaked even though it only got a very basic 'wetting down' when it was new.
One little trick we learnt from friends in SA, was to put a thin blue 'hikers mat' under the mattress to stop the cold coming up from the ground.
I was in Rays the other day & they were still on special for $150.00!

Is that for the big sucker...??? As previously mentioned, 2000mm x 1350mm, it would relatively comfortably sleep 2 large adults...

We've used the 3 hoop model from Rays for about a year now - can't fault it. Canvas comes from India, mattress is Aussie. The stuff seems good quality. Cost us $240 for the double.

Hello again Blue
Having read the latest posts, I think my original suggestion of $100 was too high. If it was $400 odd some years ago that's of little relevance if the going price is $150 new. I'd suggest that half of new price is the starting point - $75 but do check that you are comparing apples with apples as I feel the price wouldn't have dropped from around $400 to $150.
