Autumn or spring months would be the best time to go. Winter, the nights get very cold (if camping) and summer it gets toooo hot.
If staying in the resorts at those
places, then any time except the middle of summer would be OK.(ie, you can turn the air con on in your room or sit by
the pool)

Agree with the above, but should also point out the winter days (sunny, low twenties) can be excellent for walking and getting around outside without too many flies, but yes, the nights are cold. Spring and autumn could have some fairly hot days. If you are doing the walk around Kings Canyon and that sort of thing, the winter days might be a good choice.

I'd say just either side of winter.
I was there in July last year and some mornings it was freeeezing, but the days were gorgeous.
I imagine if you left it to Oct-Apr it would be too hot.
If you were doing all the big walks around Uluru, Olgas, Kings Canyon, etc then cooler is better.

Its all been said, any time from April to October is just great. Right now is great for walking on some of the great
walking tracks available...eg the pound walk at Ormaston George in the Western MacDonald Ranges (about 120k's from Alice). The Western Mac's are an absolute must see so make sure you stay in Alice for at least 3 to 4 days as there is so much to see. BUT if anyone is planning to head up in early October, be aware that the Centralian Masters games will be on and this brings in up to 6000 people into town and accomodation is a real problem....book ahead now!!!!!!!
All the best .......Grav
