Hi.

How many times have you had someone roll back at you when taking off on a hill, whilst your in a line off traffic?. Bit of a worry sometimes with some of them. Had a bloke in a honda CRV up against the the bar on the landy this afternoon, HE DID NOT EVEN REALISE!!. No damage to vechicles, But man! their out there.

Cheers Axle

Plenty :)) That's why I love my bullbar :))))

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that you're only supposed to roll back a maximum of 1 foot (300mm). How on earth that could be enforced or proven/disproven is beyond me though LOLOL

Bugger that tested me made me do a hill start and reverse park combined. To top it off he said, do it behind that VW Beetle.
Bloody old Beetles are a full 18" longer than what you can see from the drivers seat of an XY three on the tree Falcon.
But I did it, might be why he passed me!!

They should test them. Number of people who can't reverse park is scary. Get them to do it on the RHS of a one way street, that sorts the wannabe's from the can do's.

Funniest site I ever saw was when I lived in Armidale NSW. An old 180B Datsun full if the local indigenous brethren pulls up iin the main street. Everyone except the driver piles out and runs around to the front and starts pushing. Bloke did a perfect reverse park under four indigenous power. The lads spotted me laughing, and said "Hey brother no crackin' reverse gear"

>>Number of people who can't reverse park is scary.

A friend (a brunette felame driver with firm C's), was that useless at reverse parking that she would pull up in the shopping center and ask someone walking past to do it for her...

It was always dodgey just driving round in the car with her driving, specially when you were in the back...

"ask someone walking past to do it for her..."

You know Truckster that's why I don't accept that driver training in this country is competency based.
Competency Based Training requires you show a pass level of competency in ALL areas of the skill, not just a couple.
People are taught to pass a driving test, not taught to drive.

From what I can remember when doing hill starts you're not allowed to roll back at all.

I've had those bloody little doof doof's so close to the back of the Troopy at times all you can see in any of the mirrors is the roll of the roof as it disappears to the back windscreen of said doof doof. Usually they are good enough to line up dead centre and appear only just in the interior mirror!!

Aren't we supposed to leave a car length between us and the people in front...??? That aside, I've had a couple of people roll back into me at lights, one of them wasn't even hill starting, he just eased off the brake a bit too much while checking the street directory. I was bipping the horn but he didn't even seem to hear it, bloke beside me nearly fell out of his hilux laughing...

I always leave a big gap for that reason and also if you get hit in the rear you might be able to stop before you hit the one in front of you, like a buffer zone i call it.also what you have watch is that although they roll back into you and damage is done they could say you hit them ....usually the rear vehicle is at fault , that's why I would like to get or find one of those video cams that records all out the front windscreen

First time it happened to me I was 17, on P plates, and had my chitbox HQ sedan a total of two weeks. Old codger in front rolled back and was soooooooo embarrassed and soooooooo getting an earfull from his missus.
It was probably my fault for stopping too close.

I won't mention the time, in same chitbox HQ - three on the tree, still on P's, when I went for the big launch at Plain st. lights in Perth, but didn't quite get it into gear !!!!
Revved the box outa the car, rolled back into a little old lady's mini, and all in peak hour. DOH!

yep sure do. i must admit it has only happened twice and only just touched and so far nobody has done anything, the law is you must stop far enough back . you should be able to see where the tryes on the car in front of you touch the road, that is how i was showed about 40 years ago. a mate of mine was piggy in the middle of a smash at the lights and he was booked for been to close to the one in front of him and the one behind was booked as wellfor been to close to him etc.
not sure what ever happened about it all.

Try seeing the headlights of the car behind from a landrover wagon with the spare wheel on the back door. They need to be a looong way back (never measured it, but I reckon a good 10m plus). Despite this I can still reverse park, and I CAN use the handbrake for hill starts!
on a totally different subject - anyone else tried reverse parking with a trailer!?
cheers,
Alex.

I know a bloke who's of the age to know better who refuses to use his handbrake at any time.
It's "irrelevant" he says as he pulls the lever out of park in his Merc with a bang after parking on a hill and just bashing it into park.
I'm waiting for his gearbox to give him an expensive message that MB and other manufacturers still put handbrakes in because they're there to be used.
And his driving isn't up to much either, completely arrogant and incompetent as he thinks indicators are "irrelevant" as well!

I always leave 1 car space between me and the guy in front at lights. That's why there's always a line of cars behind me with a few cm between them.
Years ago a Merc rolled back into my dads car. No damage, but the driver got out and said, "excuse me sir, but did we touch ?" (my dad loved to recount that tale:)

I suppose these days the Mercs driver would get out with a mouthfull and swinging a crowbar !

How about sitting at the lights and the semi driver in a kenworth behind gets the close that he cant see the 4x4 camper trailer your towing over his bonnet, result 2 adults and 2 kids with whiplash. I got out and went off my head at him and he had to reverse up before he relised what he`d hit.

Hey guys, thank god it's Friday...

The boys in blue in Bananaland mentioned to me that you should be able to see the car's rear tyres touching the road... Obviously it differs from car to car, but a good guide nonetheless.

Cheers,
Ben
