White 2001 Jackaroo towing a
Tambo Camper Trailer leaving
Melbourne tomorrow (for 8 weeks) and heading up the
Kidman Way to Townsville, then on to
Cairns and and
Cape York mid June. Hope all the roads and National Parks open soon. I was about to say you'd be surprised how many hours I've spent on ExplorOz during the past couple of years, but I suspect you wouldn't be surprised at all. Thanks to the ExplorOz Team for a terrific website, and thanks to all who've responded to my questions as I've been preparing for this trip. Best wishes to all who venture forth into this beautiful country. Rob.

Just been talking to a friend who's taking some bikes there on June6 . He tells me there are still a lot of difficult
places and some locals are worried about the effects of high volume traffic on the roadworks.
Nevertheless , I'm sure everyone will have a great time. Travel carefully and keep an eye out for a mob of quad bikes.

Is there anyone who is not going north. There was a movement some years ago to man the border gates and charge admission to God's own country - but it failed as no one would give up their lifestyle to man the Gates !
I am also heading north in a few weeks , New Hilux single cab /canopy - don't a
pic yet but hope to see you there.

I travelled up the Cape in 1994 with a Tag Along Tour, in a Rodeo TC T/Diesel, towing a Cavalier Camper Trailer, 4 wheeling version. I was advised by the Tour operators not to take the trailer, but I ignored them. Silly thing. There is a lot of sand, and towing a trailer trough the sand saw me bogged more times than enough, I was the butt of a lot of jokes as the rest of the group pulled me out for the umpteenth time. Every time they saw sand, they would yell over the CB radios to "get the ropes out for D...". Never again. Getting in and out of the very small camping
places along the Telegraph Road was a nightmare, with the trailer. Other than that, everything in the trailer was destroyed by the corrugations, which were horrendous, and only exceeded in my experience by the Gunbarrel 'H'way'.
Have fun!
