Hi all, I'm thinking of fitting solar panels to the boat rack of my Trak Shak (the same panels as Trak Shak supply as an optional extra). Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with these? Any other suggestions that might be useful? The cost (approx $3k) is substantial, but hopefully will avoid using the generator & annoying both my wife & other campers,
cheers,
Ozidave.

My suggestion would be shop arond.
$3K is a hell of a lot to spend on solar for a camper trailer.
I would expect $1500 for 2 off 80 panels including regulator.
Plus cost of fitting. Definately would not cost another $1500 to fit.

from Marty.

ozidave, try jaycar, i got 2x80w panels, 20amp regulator, anderson plug and 20 metres of cable for $1730, not that hard to wire up to battery, or have the solar panels portable.
cheers,
Lance

I have recently got a 130w Kyocera aand a Plasmatronics 20 controller from Tasman Energy. Just had 2 weeks campling at Shark Bay (WA) worked perfectly running the lights and the 50lt ColeCool fridge. (best fridge ever made, now made by Coolmen in Bibra Lake. (Perth)

Bloody Hell! What do you guys run on your batteries?

I'm getting by on one 40 watt panel.

At the most I would have thought 80 watts should be adequate to put back the juice that a fridge pulls out.

Hi Dave,

I‘m looking into Solar power for my Trak Shak as well, just making you aware that depending on the year of your trailer will depend on the size of panels you buy to fit on the boat rack. I found out that the boat racks differ in size.

Give me a call 0411250492 if you want to catch up and compare details. I live south of the river (Perth).

All the best,
Stamps
