I posted a brief note on here when I was in
Innamincka a week or so ago, but just to expand for other's benefit, (we are now
home in Macedon Ranges Vic)., we were surprised how good the Strzelecki was - just a really bad patch around Moomba with BIG bulldust holes - similarly the Adventure way from where the bitumen ends to
Innamincka is pretty ordinary with patches of soft sand and bulldust holes until about 30k out of
Innamincka. We did the Strez. in a day - we had intended to stay at Montecellina
Bore but got there about 1pm and it was blowing 40kts. and bloody cold with lots of dust so we just pushed on to
Copley. Cullyamara is a good spot at
Innamincka but the road after the turn off is horrible - corrugations in particular. It put our Waeco out of action. The pub is great, as are David and Shirley at
Copley Caravan Park. We also stayed 3 nights on
Warraweena Station near
Beltana - fantastic
bush camping. We did between 14 - 16 litres per 100k's in the V6 Prado towing a Sthn Cross offroad Camper. I drive at 90-100 tops. We had new Coopers ATR tyres and used Landcruiser 100 series standard tyres on the trailer - no damage to any of them. Highest petrol price was 154 at
Innamincka.
Trust the above is useful to someone.
Craig.

they must've graded the roads round
innamincka. when i was there in may the roads were terrible with corrrugations and large rocks covering many sections of road.
how did you get onto staying at
warraweena station? was it worth staying at?

Yes
Warraweena's terrific - its a station that was purchased by a conservation group in
Adelaide and destocked - they're replanting natives and trying to get rid of feral
pests (except people). There are a number of 4WD tracks if that's your go, or campiong sites with long drops and fire
places. Stoney and Gina Steiner run the place and you'll find all the contact points on the website - just google
Warraweena.( i haven't got the details with me at present). The country is very pretty - reminds me a bit of
Brachina Gorge. We're into walking and there are plenty of interesting walks, but you need maps and compass as the trails aren't marked.
Craig.

Those rocks (gibbers) are always there, even after a grade.
The
grader just moves them around and fills in the corrugations.
Followed a road plant through one year when they were working on the road between
Innamincka and the
bridge at Coopers Ck.

I was there yesterday - roads are freshly graded - even the road to
the dig tree was waaaayyyy better than usual. Next week - may be different!

Thanks for the info. We are currently planning our trip from Qld through
Innamincka to the Flinders at end of August. Any information gained will be helpful.
We are planning to stay at
Warraweena for a few nights as
well. Have had lots of good reports about it.

Hi Wayne & Sheryl, just looking at your mt mee pics at the A-Break. Did this track a while ago when I was testing the truck and did a u-turn halfway down LOL. Can you remember what the track was like going up? clearance, rocky, easy, difficult etc. Carolyn & I (
well, me!) want to go back and do some exploring :) Cheers, Andrew.

Hi Andrew
We do the A Break every couple of monthsor so with our kids and their vehicles. Have done it going up and down, and damp and dry. It is rough, a bit rocky but not that bad. Clearance is Ok, but last trip a couple of weeks ago it was more rocky as the rain had washed away a lot of the dirt leaving the rocks sitting a bit higher.
We could meet and do the trip together sometime if you are interested. We met you on the Imbil weekend didn't we?
We usually start at Dayboro end - Lacey's Creek and go through to Mt Mee
picnic area then
home via the bitumen.
