Hi there black bull, yeah ive just bookes myn in for a turbo fit in 3 weeks time, got sick of it been so sluggish up hills, especially now we have the camper' didnt want to do it as it has done 285 k now and couldnt see the value in it but asked the question and I can transfer it accross to a 3Litre 5L hilux in the future if I want to. I'm paying $3275 for myn supply and fit including new exhaust and that it putting on Dyno before and after recalibrating the pump, it it getting done by turboglide in
wollongong only an 80 minute run for me here in Penrith
Sydney. They run 8 pound boost saying it will give an extra 30% increase Note: These are factual rear wheel power figures, not estimated flywheel drafts.
KPH NM before NM after KW before KW after
60 224 288 33 40
80 220 286 43 54
100 196 244 48 60
120 156 188 47 55
Hope myn makes a differance as spending this much on a 10k 89 hilux I know wont get any of it back hence thats why I asked the question about transferring to a later model in I want to. Regards Steve M

the cheapo way to do it is get a turbo off a 2 LT, should be able to get a whole setup from wreckers for a grand or less. There are 3 different bolt patterns of manifolds, any of them can be modded to fit but (from memory) post 92 surf is the one that fits straight on. Did it on
mine 18 months back (225000k's) done 30000 since at about 6 psi only. guessing 20% extra puff at topend and around 100k's extra per
tank.
Very suprised overall.

There are 3 patterns, cant remember which they are from the they are early surf, late surf and Bundera. 1, like Hilux, has all flange studs sloping same way, 1 has 2 sloping one way, 2 going opposite, and the other is all sloping same way but slightly different angle. They can all be made to fit though.

Sorry there black bull meant to ask you is yours watercooled or not ? The one Im gettin fitted is not as the bloke said its not required on diesel motors,as they cause steam to build up and can cause pressure back through the system causing head problems, maybe he's just referring to hilux's, I presume he knows what he's talking about considering I know jack sh@t about turbo's and he's been doing it for 30 years. regards Steve M

So when you fit a turbo as
well as more power you get better fuel economy? Who much better do people find it in terms of economy?

worth keeping an eye on exhaust temps with this setup as if they are running rich they will melt pistons. Quote from Toyota dealer and shown an engine on their workbench to prove it.
Not saying yours is but just some advice, to throw out or keep in the brain box your choice.
Good luck with it.
Trevor.

Black Bull.
Slightly off topic but just a question on the exhaust system. I am thinking of having my system replaced, manifold to tailpipe and are thinking
Beaudesert exhaust. Did they weld the connections or clamp them? was it a good job?
mine is an 80 petrol and is mostly original except rear muffler. Looking for a good job with improved performance if possible.
Regards
Greg
