Hello , dont know if any body can help, a few months ago I read an article in the
Townsville bulletin about an
abandoned mine up at high range , apparently the public can access it with permission from range control. If anybody has details could they let me know .

High Range training area incorporates Dotswood and Star training areas (former stations) as
well as a few others. I was last there about 7 years ago and am still picking the spear grass out of me.
There are a bunch of alluvial tin mines up there as
well as a few alluvial gold mines. The gold mines are to be avoided as they used to
water huge piles of dirt with cyanide solution and apparently, the dust is not real good for you.
There is a road that cuts across from the road that runs out the back of Paluma (out past Hidden Valley) to the
Gregory Developmental road that has an old tin
mine straddling the road. It’s an interesting place to have a poke around.
I remember reading that there is somewhere that you can get to near the top of the High range escarpment that a tag-along-tour operator was taking people to, but it can only be accessed through private property.
There might be something happening out at
Greenvale too.

Just out of interest, you are not talking about the same tour operator who has gained permission to take tourists through the old
Greenvale railway Tunnels underneath the Harvey's Range teahouse?

There is also an abandoned uranium
mine up there as
well. I believe it is off limits though.
